After a big natural disaster there isn’t much of life on earth left. Animals are almost extinct and the people who survived are searching for food. Food has become so scarce that cannibalism has developed. You have to be very careful about who you talk to or where you sleep. In this movie Viggo Mortensen plays one of the survivors who, together with his son, tries to stay alive. The movie shows their journey towards the coast.

For the last couple of years Mortensen plays in movies which are different from your typical Hollywood movie. Examples are Eastern Promises and a History of Violence. The Road is another example of this.  The movie is very captivating and interesting, but misses something that makes it a classic.
