Welcome to this week’s Moviesite Spotlight. For those who wonder what this is:
Every week I read a lot of great movie related blogs and I thought it was time to give the ones I visit regularly a chance to shine in the spotlight, by interviewing its writers.
This week’s interview is with Tyler, writer of Southern Vision.
What’s the history of your site, why did you start it?
I started my site on February 13, 2011, originally as a place where I would post random musings on films I had just seen. The regular posting you see on Southern Vision today didn’t kick in until May.
What makes your movie blog different from the other ones out there?
I focus on foreign film, but also include as much as possible about mainstream and indie cinema, so my site can be enjoyable as well as informative for those unfamiliar with foreign cinema.
What do enjoy most about your site and what is the reason you keep doing it?
I enjoy the positive response from readers, and the feeling of enormous satisfaction that comes with pressing the ‘Publish’ button on one of my post drafts that has reached completion. Comments are always appreciated. Even one small nod of praise from one person puts a smile on my face.
In which ways has your blogging changed the way you watch movies?
It hasn’t really changed things, although people often recommend films to me through my blog, so I try to watch them.
What’s your favorite article you have written?
My favourite article is on the ten most important countries worldwide whose contributions to cinema have been the most vital. It can be found at this link:
http://magnoliaforever.wordpress.com/2011/07/17/the-ten-best-countries-for-film-production/
Could you name five of your all time favorite movies?
Persona (1966)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Magnolia (1999)
Three Colours: Red (1994)
The Decalogue (1988)
How many movies do you watch on average each week?
Probably around eight or nine. About four of these are films viewed for the first time, and the rest are rewatches.
Do you own any movie related items that you are very proud of?
Haha no, not really. Just my DVDs, and my collection isn’t really that big.
Anything else you want to tell us about yourself?
No, I think I covered everything. Thanks for reading and checking out Southern Vision.
Thanks for this Nostra, it is much appreciated! I think I am going to enjoy this Spotlight series.
You are welcome Tyler, you deserve to be in the spotlight!

I’ll join the choir of Tyler-praise. Southern Vision is a great blog, one I follow diligently. Wonderful piece!
We should record that choir π
Tyler certainly brings a unique taste in film. While his tastes are far arter than mine, i am happy to have him as a blogging buddy π
His tastes are very different from mine as well, but that means he sometimes points me to movies I had never heard of, which is always nice.
Interesting π Always nice to know a foreign and indie movie recommendation. I can relate on enjoying positive response and satisfied after writing a post.
I think it’s something we all enjoy! π
I love Tyler’s blog and your blog b’day is coming up soon! Again props for Nostra for this fabulous series, yes you ARE the king of blog series π
Haha, that still brings a smile to my face Ruth. I should start using it as an official title I guess π
I have a question. Could me and a blogger friend use these questions(or ones like them) for our own posts. If you want we could credit you for it
Of course, no problem!
