The Many Faces of… Edward Norton

An overview of the roles of Edward Norton

It’s Friday and you know what that means, a new installment of “The Many Faces of…” This week I’ve chosen for Edward Norton. He was born in 1969 in Columbia, Maryland. His father was a lawyer and his mother an English teacher. He studied at Yale University and acted in university plays and was also part of the rowing team. He graduated in 1991 (Bachelor of Arts in History) and worked in Japan for his grandfather’s company. His acting career started in New York in theater. Only in America in 1994 was the first movie he appeared in, but it really kicked off in 1996 with Primal Fear starring Richard Gere. He has since appeared in a total of 28 movies.

Although he might not have appeared in as many movies as other actors/actresses in previous “Many Faces of…” installments, he is one of my favorite actors. My favorite movie role is the one he plays in 25th Hour, although he also was great in American History X.

What’s your favorite Edward Norton role?

  1. He’s an amazing actor but I’m baffled as to why Ridley Scott cast him in Kingdom of Heaven w/ his face covered up the whole time! Anyway, the first time I saw him was in Primal Fear and was totally blown away by his performance.

  2. Recently re-watched his Baldwin IV of Jerusalem from ‘Kingdom of Heaven’. Even though his was masked throughout, his performance shined. Extraordinary actor, alright. Fine post, Nostra.

  3. Been my favourite actor ever since the Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde triple whammy of Primal Fear, American History X and Fight Club! Not many films can match the performance of Norton so I find myself often disappointed by his more recent films. AHX probably my favourite performance too though Fight Club is my fave film. I need to see Kingdom of Heaven still!

  4. I love it when actors show how diverse they can be… for instance… AHX to Fight club? So different, so cool.

I hope he gets some coolness back this year as I feel like he has gone off the boil slightly

  5. My all time favourite role of Edward’s is definitely American History X. I remember watching that and just being completely floored. Amazing performance.

I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of Edward Norton. He has done some great work but he’s not someone I follow. I wasn’t a big fan of him as Hulk/Bruce Banner, so glad they changed that up for the Avengers.

  6. I didn’t know that he was on The Simpsons, but then again many actor/famous people were in it. I don’t know much of his roles, but I thought his performance in Fight Club was great.

  7. I am glad he is a bit selective about what films he stars in. American History X and Fight Club would have to be my two favorites. I am hoping to be able to add Moonrise Kingdom to my list of favorites. Nice list
