The Many Faces of… Joseph Gordon-Levitt

roles, movies, overview, characters

This week I thought it would be nice to look at another actor that we will also see this summer in one the most anticipated movies of the year, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. When I saw his IMDB page I was surprised that he had 62 titles to his name and he has been acting since he was very young.
He was born in 1981 in California. He started his acting at age 4 by doing a musical and was discovered by an agent and starred in several commercials. He did his first movie roles at the age of six. He gained fame in the 3rd Rock from the Sun series, about aliens trying to live on earth. He kept doing movies as well and has managed to make a name for himself.

My favorite role probably is what he did in 50/50. There is one scene in the hospital where he realises what is going to happen and he managed to act so convincingly that it really moved me. Also loved him in (500) Days of Summer.

What’s your favorite Joseph Gordon-Levitt role?

  1. I remember watching him since the early 90s as I enjoyed his work in Angels in the Outfield. He’s come along way since then and I started to be intrigued by him after seeing him in Mysterious Skin and Brick. I wonder if he really got a good look at Patricia Arquette’s breasts in Holy Matrimony. That was a great scene where he’s trying to knock at her door, she shows up topless and he runs away only to faint afterwards. Now he’s the man! Working in a Chris Nolan movie with being Leo’s sidekick and being part of a gang that also includes Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, and Ken Watanabe. That’s hella-cool!

  2. MY favorite of his would be (500) Days of Summer although 50/50 would be up there as well. He was pretty good in a minor role in Stop Loss too.

  3. Hmmm I liked him in Inception and Brick but 50/50 was prob my fav. Looking forward to checking him out in TDKR, that other film when he rides a bike around the city not so much.

  4. Too many to choose from! Mysterious Skin was deeply upsetting, 50/50 was great, 500 Days of Summer was great, Hesher was very cool. He’s consistently a real pleasure to watch! Looking forward to Dark Knight rises and Looper and Premium Rush!

  5. One of my favourite young actors! I loved him in 3rd Rock from the Sun. But there’s now so much more to love him in – Brick, 10 Things I Hate About You, (500) Days of Summer, Inception, 50/50.

Really looking forward to him in TDKR, Premium Rush and Looper.

  6. I agree with Jaina — I’ve been loving this kid since 3rd Rock from the Sun. I forgot he was in Roseanne for a little bit — my favorite sitcom of all time, mind you. But yeah, he grew to be quite the versatile performer. Mysterious Skin was a huge turning point for him. A stunning performance. 10 Things, (500) Days of Summer, 50/50 — all numbered titles, all fantastic pieces of work. So glad he made it to the top.

    Thanks for recognizing him!

  7. When I saw him for the first time in Inception, I was thinking, “Ooh, who is this?” (I think the fact that he was wearing three-piece suits throughout the whole movie was a bit of an influence.) Almost two years later, I am now proud to say he’s among my list of favorite actors.

In regards to role preference, my favorite is a tie between (500) Days of Summer and 50/50. His best role, however, is in Mysterious Skin.

  8. 3rd Rock from the Sun always bugged me, but I have been really enjoying JGL’s work lately. Not enough can be said about his amazing performance in 50/50. I also liked him in the underrated Hesher.

  9. He’s a great actor, but his look in Looper is really weird, like a botched makeover job or something, ahah. I still might check out the movie though πŸ™‚
