The Many Faces of… Eva Mendes

Overview roles of actress Eva Mendes in all movies

Eva Mendes was born on March 5, 1974 in Miami. She grew up in Los Angeles and as she was growing up was aspiring to become a nun. At California State University she studied marketing, but dropped out to pursue acting. She studied acting under Ivana Chubbuck (who’s students also included Brad Pitt, Halle Berry and Terrence Howard amongst many others).

Her first movie role was in Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror, a straight to video release. She acted in several small movies, but had her big break when she appeared in Training Day. She has since starred in a lot of movies including 2 Fast 2 Furious, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Out of Time, Hitch, Ghostrider and Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.

Although she might no have had many huge roles I’ve always had a soft spot for Eva Mendes and love the fact she can be very funny (for example in The Other Guys), but is excellent in serious roles too (like Training Day or We Own the Night).

What’s your favorite Eva Mendes role?

  2. She’s gorgeous but doesn’t seem to know how to choose her roles, I mean Ghostwriter?? She’s good in The Other Guys, I think she should do more comedies.

Btw Nostra, since I know you love documentaries, I invite you to check out my spotlight on five of them playing at TCFF 🙂

    • Yeah, Ghostrider wasn’t good, but like you say she is very good in comedies. Also liked her in Bad Lieutenant.

Yeah, already saw the post in my mail about those documentaries, haven’t had the time yet to read it completely, but will do so this week 🙂

  3. I’m not sure about Eva Mendes and never really have been. I’ve always just seen her as a pretty face with not a lot of acting ability, or maybe that’s just because I haven’t seen the right films with her in? I’ve seen Ghost Rider and Hitch and haven’t been impressed by her to be honest (although Ghost Rider wasn’t completely her fault). I have Bad Lieutenant in my dvd collection but haven’t got round to watching it yet.

    • I will admit she is a pretty face and I get what you say about her acting ability. I’ve seen too little of her movies to really pass judgement on her acting. You should watched Bad Lieutenant though, great Werner Herzog movie and it was extremely funny. Just see it as a very dark comedy and you’ll have a great time.

  4. Not really sure Ms. Mendes has been around long enough to be worthy of a ‘Many Faces Of…’ post. Haven’t seen a lot of diversity in her choice of characters. Or the willingness to spread her talents. Go against norms and have the chance to romp, play and make her time in front of the camera special, exceptional or memorable.

    • Well, I don’t have high standards when it comes to these Many Faces of… posts 😉 Just kidding, I do find her interesting, but like you say I hope she will do some different type of roles.

  5. Hitch Hitch Hitch! it’s too bad that most of her roles thought have revolved more around her beauty and body than any talent of hers. (We own the night, Training Day, etc). She’s not memorable for much more than her beauty in those films. I do have to say I like her role in the Fast and Furious films however.
