Donnie Darko with Jake Gyllenhaal, with some smaller roles played by Patrick Swayze and Drew Barrymore is a very memorable movie. Donnie Darko has a very original concept and ideas which force you to almost watch this movie twice before you start to understand what happened. Once you finish watching it you’ll be thinking about it, something that movies don’t manage to do very often.
Donnie meets Frank the rabbit who tells him that the world will end and that he has to do a couple of things. Director Richard Kelly manages to create a psychedelic dream world with this movie and through word of mouth managed to garner a big amount of fans for it. It is now a cult hit. His surrealistic style can also be seen in Southland Tales, which I liked a lot as well (gave it an 8, despite it getting a lot of negative reviews). If you like movies that can’t be labelled as “normal”, then you really have to see Donnie Darko.
