Being in love and finding the right one. There have been so many movies about the subject, but this movie gives it’s own interpretation. Is it necessary to have “sparkles” to start a relationship or do you just have to take a chance with someone that’s interesting and just see how it develops?
3rd Rock from the Sun-actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who already has shown over the years that is able to play different roles, is Tom Hansen, an employee at a card company. When Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel) joins the company Tom falls in love with her. They start talking to each other because they like the samen music.
The movie is not told in chronological order, making it possible to already know the effect the relationship has on both of them. They have a lot of fun with each other, which results in some memorable and funny scenes. My favourites are the ones filmed in Ikea and a song-and-dance scene. The movie has, just like love, something magical, which connects with the audience. You feel wat Tom and Summer are feeling, also because you already know at the start of the movie what the result of the relationship will be. Because of it you almost can’t wait to find out what happened between these two.
The trailer of the movie states that you have to know that it’s not a love story, but don’t believe everything you hear. Watch this movie, enjoy it and make up your own mind if it is.
Score: 8

This film is totally wonderful. A fantastic piece about relationships.
Although there was some over the top stuff it felt very realistic in the way it handled relationships. It also had some very funny moments (like the Ikea bit).
I think that all over-the-top stuff was made deliberately 🙂
I didn’t think this film was particularly amazing, but it did have nice touches to make it stand out. I liked the split screen showing how he imagined the party would be, and what actually happened. I also laughed a lot as they sat in the park shouting “Penis” at increasing volume!
Yeah, it had tons of original little touches, which is the reason why I like it so much.
