A trip….those are the only words that can be used to perfectly summarise this whole movie. The movie tells the story of two friends that go to Las Vegas to write an article about a race. They really don’t manage to do a very good job about this because they are constantly using and abusing a big number of different drugs.
Johny Depp and Benicio del Toro play their roles extremely well. You almost ask yourself if they were on drugs to be able to play their roles convincingly. The scene where they go to the circus casino and they take drugs just before they enter was very funny. The way they walk is unique. The story almost does not matter in this movie as you want to see what they will be up to in each next scene.
Only after watching it i found out that this, like the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, also is a movie made by Terry Gilliam. So it’s pure coincidence that i saw 2 movies by him so soon after each other. I really want to see all of his films, because I’m impressed by them every time.
This film literally is a trip brought to the screen. If you want to see a weird movie with characters that do the strangest things, which you really don’t expect, you have to see this movie.
Score: 8

Love this movie. It is a trip, indeed. It’s also one of the more faithful book-to-movie adaptations I have seen, and it really helps to have read the book beforehand. Can’t wait to see The Rum Diary, too.
I hadn’t read the book, which made it quite shocking to watch 🙂 Looking forward to The Rum Diary as well. I have the book, but have not come around yet to reading it….
