When you look at the pictures below, you probably won’t go “Ooh, that’s him and that’s that guy!”. When i write their names, Frank Darabont and Paul Schrader, you still probably won’t know who they are. Even when i name the following movie titles: The Green Mile, The Mist, Shawshank Redemption and Raging Bull, Taxi Driver it still will be hard to think of a way to connect those movies with the pictures below.
Darabont (The Green Mile, The Mist, Shawshenk Redemption and more) en Schrader (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver and more) are only a few of the many script writers that are interviewed in this documentary . This movie talks about the whole script writing process, pitching it, not giving up, dealing with rewrites and a lot more.
The script writing process is something that you might read something about sometimes, but you really will not know a lot about it. A lot of people think it’s easy to write a good story for a movie. The reality of that process is the subject of the movie which results in a very interesting overview of this part of the Hollywood industry. You will hear what the experiences are some of the big names in script writing have been, how they sometimes seen big parts of their original script rewritten/disappear or that when you have written a good script this doesn’t automatically mean everyone is waiting for you next one.
For script writers who are starting out and movie lovers this definitely is a documentary worth checking out. It gave me an insight into another part of making a movie. You don’t think much about the fact that someone is writing a story for months which you will watch in a couple of hours.
