Kick-ass (2010)

Does a superhero need to have special powers? Various superheroes have already shown this is not necessary (Iron Man or Batman). But what if you don’t have a large bank account to create special suits to suit your needs? Well, you order a diving suit online and call yourself Kick-ass, like Dave Lizewski does in this movie.

Dave is a nerdy teenager who like comics and one day decides to become a superhero after asking himself the question why nobody does become one.
With some luck he manages to become a true internet sensation and not soon after this other superheroes start appearing like Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who you might know better as McLovin), Hit-Girl and Big Daddy (Nicholas Cage). The bad guy in this movie is a mob boss who sees the effect the superheroes are having on his operation. He decides to do something about it.

Both the humor and violence are way over the top, but i could really enjoy it. The first shock I had, was when Nicholas Cage was standing before his little daughter with a gun pointed at her and deciding to pull the trigger. That scene didn’t end as i was expecting.
The look of the film is less glamorous then you are used to with this type of movie. It all feels more realistic like it was done with the movie Defendor.

Is Kick-Ass, with all the superhero movies coming out, one you should see? Yep, it definitely is. It is a great action movie with a good dose of humor that’s entertaining from start to finish.

Score: 9
