Burn after reading was on TV the other day and as it’s a movie i quite enjoy i decided to watch it again. This comedy by the brothers Coen, which stars a whole lot of well-known actors (George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand en J.K.Simmons) is a nice movie to see.
I’ve seen several comedies by the Coen brothers and don’t enjoy all of them. I was disappointed with the Ladykillers, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and the more recent A Serious Man. I just couldn’t laugh about them. I did enjoy Intolerable cruelty. So when watching their movies I never know if I will enjoy them. Burn after reading however is one of their movies which I do like else I really would not have watched it again.
When a CD with some information on it is found at a gym, Chad Feldheimer (a very funny Brad Pitt) is sure that the CD has secret information on it which he wants to get some money for together with Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand, who also played in the Coens’ Fargo). The end up in a web of various secret services, which of course leads to hilarious situations.
George Clooney is Harry Pfaffer, a married playboy who dates various women he meets via the web. He’s very paranoid and constantly suspects that people are following him. Clooney plays his role in an excellent way.
Malkovich is able to crazy in his role and his scenes together with Brad Pitt are my favorite.
If you are looking for a good comedy with some suspense, suprising twists and funny characters I recommend getting this.
