The Mystery Team has been solving mysteries around their neighborhood ever since they were little. They are only small mysteries, like who drove over a frog and things like that. The team consists of Jason (expert in disguises), Duncan (the boy genius) and Charlie (supposedly the strong one). The boys grow up but still take on new cases. When a little girl ask them to solve a big crime they can not turn her down.
The movie has been made by the Derrick Comedy Group. I didn’t know their work, but they are very popular on YouTube. Mystery Team is their first feature film.
It took a while before I really got the jokes. I didn’t think it was funny initially (which of course is important for a comedy), but after I developed a feeling for their brand of humor that feeling changed. The humor is based on the fact that team is almost grown up, but they still act like kids in many ways (they do not curse, always choose for chocolate milk when they are asked what they want to drink and don’t seem to know some basic concepts about society and growing up). The clash between that way of looking at the world and the serious subject forms the basis of most of their jokes. There were scenes which made me laugh out loud. My favorites are the ones with Jason. The language they use changes slowly and the movie has some really gross things as well, but as a whole it’s a very funny movie, which I would not mind seeing again.
