Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) is an average guy, he works in an office and his relationship with his girlfriend is not good as he knows she’s cheating on him. He takes pills to stop his panic attacks and really is not looking forward to his future. When he meets Fox (Angelina Joeli), she tells him that his father was one of the best assassins for an organisation called the Fraternity, which is run by Sloan (Morgan Freeman).
Suddenly people are trying to assassinate him and he decides to join the Fraternity. He finds out he does not actually have panic attacks, but has a special power which allows him to focus on a target and to be very precise with a gun. He completes his training and is sent out to perform his first assassination. He finds out that there is something not quite right with his job and he investigates.
Wanted has some impressive special effects shots, like when the path of a bullet is shown or when a high-speed chase in the city takes place. James McAvoy does not impress in his role, which results in the viewer not caring too much about him. Angelina Jolie, although nice to look at, not a lot to do and does not manage to give the movie something special. The movie has been shot on various locations, partly in Europe.
Maybe my expectations for this movie were too high, but in the end I was disappointed with it. I would have liked to get more background information about the Fraternity. But with this being an action movie, it’s something you really can’t expect to happen. It’s not a movie that I would like to see again. It has a few nice bits, but in general they should have used the special powers a bit more which might have resulted in a better movie.
Score: 6
The film had so much potential but you know, I have nothing against Russian culture but I definitely don’t like its cinematography. My verdict: the Russian director spoild everything and I mean it.
