Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) is a successful architect, who’s working on several development projects. When his wife and daughter fall victim to a brutal robbery in their house he’s slowly starting to change. When he’s in Arizona to give advice for a new project he receives a gun as a present. When he’s back in New York he decides to try to find the people responsible for the attack in his house. It doesn’t take long before the police start looking for him.
It was the first time I saw this movie (based on a book) and I do know that there were a lot of sequels (which probably are not of the same quality). This is a raw, powerful revenge movie from the seventies. Bronson is amazing as an angry father/husband. His part was originally offered to Steve McQueen, Jack Lemmon and Frank Sinatra, who were not interested. If you hear about Death Wish now you automatically think of Bronson and it’s hard to imagine any other actor playing the role. If you pay close attention you will see that Jeff Goldblum is one of the attackers.
It is a movie which I really enjoyed watching. The raw action and the seventies feeling result in a movie which I really recommend watching.
Greetings,
What a great film! This film, along with Dirty Harry, were the first true action films. I agree that no other actor could play this role, especially Frank Sinatra. Did you know he was offered the main role in Die Hard too? Crazy, huh? Thanks for the post and the review. Oh, and the sequels are awful, but they will make you laugh for reasons the director did not intend for you to.

I’d love to hear what you think, and often.
