The loss of someone you love can have a lot of impact on someone’s life. It’s also something everyone responds differently to. Becca (Nicole Kidman) and Howie (Aaron Eckhart) have lost their son and do their best to try to move on with their lives, which isn’t easy. There is a lot of friction between the two and they can hardly talk about it with each other.
The have joined a therapy group to listen what other parents are doing that have gone through the same thing, but even this is hard for Becca. She really can’t handle it.
Nicole Kidman really is amazing in this movie, she really impressed me here with her acting. She manages to show the pain and frustration that is present under her skin and I wouldn’t be surprised if she will get an Oscar nomination for this role. Her big rival for the statue would be Natalie Portman for her role in Black Swan.
It’s hard to approach Becca as she quickly makes hateful remarks towards others (like her sister and mother) and constantly lives on her impulses.
Kidman picked Eckhart herself to play her husband and he shows he was a good choice. His character Howie wants to approach their situation differently, but keeps thinking about his wife’s feeling, which keeps him from actually doing it the way he wants to. It only adds to his frustration.
Rabbit Hole is one of the better dramas I’ve seen lately. You really become part of their feelings and are almost compelled to do something for them. The way it has been shot only adds to it. You feel the emptiness in their lives through the emptiness of their house. It feels cold and isn’t a place you’d want to be.
I think their will be a lot of people who won’t be able to watch this movie without some tissues as it is a heart wrenching story. Rabbit Hole tells, because of its excellent acting a gripping, interesting story. I highly recommend it.
Score: 8
I loved that although the distance between Becca and Howie occurred after the loss, they still supported each other. Beautifully acted.
Yes, amazing acting. They support each other although that it very difficult and frustrating for both of them.
I seriously cannot wait to see this, seems amazing. I love strong performances.
Let me know what you think of it, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
Rabbit Hole may sound bleak, and it surely is at times, but its refreshingly new take on the subject coupled with Kidman’s mammoth performance make it a rewarding experience. Good review, check out my review when you can!
Do you think it Kidman will win the Oscar for it or will it be Natalie Portman?
