Alamar is a movie which is very similar to the movie I reviewed yesterday, Somewhere. In this film we also see a father who is divorced who takes care of his kid (in this case a son) for a while. Is Alamar the movie which Somewhere should have been or is this one you should skip as well?
The father takes his son to go back to his roots, staying at his own father, who lives as a fisherman.
His house is built on poles in the water and it’s a world in which everyone is very close to nature. They join him when he goes fishing, help him when he sells his catch and other things he does. .
The movie has as little story as Somewhere did, but somehow this movie did manage to fascinate me. Reasons for this are the location it is set, which is near a coral reef. As a viewer you get to see how these people live in this environment. It was all shot beautifully. The movie felt more like documentary then a film which is not a bad thing though. It also has some special moments, like when a wild bird visits the family and follows them for a while.
Alamar isn’t a movie for everyone, but if you want to experience the feeling of living close to nature, on the water then Alamar is a movie you can’t miss.
