Although it is documentary week I know a lot of people look forward to this weekly Friday post, so of course there is a new “The Many Faces of…”.
This week’s choice is John Malkovich, who has an impressive list of movies to his name. Not only is he an actor, but he’s also producer, director and fashion designer with his label Technobohemian. He never won an Oscar, but was nominated twice for his roles in Places in the Heart and In the Line of Fire. He has Croatian grandparents and a mother of Scottish and German ancestry and has played quite a few roles in different languages. He is fluent in French (he lived there for 10 years).
He’s a great actor who always manages to stand out in the movies he is in as he has a very strong screen presence.
When it comes to picking my favorite role, I first thought of his role in Rounders as Teddy KGB, which I remember fondly or his role in Red, but looking through his movies I had to settle for something else as I absolutely loved the way in which he went off against Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading.

This series keeps on getting better and better…. Malokovich is a true chameleon!!
Brilliant Nostra
Thought he’d be a very interesting actor. Each week I just think of an actor/actress, really not based on any specific thing, so even I don’t know who will be the next one next week 🙂
I was sitting at my desk this morning and then realized…HEY it’s FRIDAY! That means…”The many faces of…”!!!
I had to jump over here to see who was featured this week! Thanks for posting!
John Malkovich is one of my faves! Good pick! So versatile. I like a lot of his roles. Too hard to pick. Con Air, Red, Secretariat, and many more!
Haha, makes me happy to hear that you are looking forward to these! I’m not planning on stopping any time soon!
Love Malkovich, obvious stand outs for me are Con Air, Burn After Reading, RED and don’t hate me everyone but his comic French performance in Johnny English!
Great choices, his role in Con Air is also a memorable one. Must admit that I completely forget everything about Johny English. Don’t think I liked the movie much.
Good choice, Nostra. Out of his more recent movies, I was a big fan of his performance of RED. “I’m getting the pig!” – cracks me up!
Thanks, I’m always open for suggestions, so if you want to see a specific actor/actress just let me know. He was very funny in Red 🙂
Great choice, Nostra, though he often looks like his crazy Malkovich self, ahah. I do like this guy a lot, so entertaining in everything he does, so fabulously quirky. Glad you mention about his fashion design career, most people don’t know that side of him. He’s a multitalented fellow.
Being John Malkovich was also one which I liked a lot. The whole concept of it and him being in it…memorable movie as well.
I didn’t know about it either, but reading up on him it was interesting to find out about it!
I love Malkovich, ever since Being.. wonderful, such a versatile actor. Great choice with Burn After Reading!
I have not seen that one…but there’s a lot of his work I have not seen yet. From what I’ve seen though I know that he’s a very good actor!
Probably Burn After Reading also. He was hilarious.
Nice to see someone picking this one as well!
I will say Empire of the Sun where he plays Basie, a crook who falsely befriends a young Christian Bale as they are captured by the Japanese during World War II and thrown into a prison camp in China.
Another of his movies I have not seen, but knowing Christian Bale is in it as well it really wants to make me watch it!
I did not know that he is a fashion designer too. What a multi-talented person. I remember him the most on ‘Being John Malkovich’, and haven’t seen much of his films.
It’s worth seeing more movies he is in as he is a very good actor!
Malkovich is great. It’s hard for me to pick my favourite role of his, but I absolutely loved when he poked fun at himself in BEING JOHN MALKOVICH.
Yeah, it’s a role I think not many other actors would be willing to do if it was about them.
