Last week, Scott over at the always excellent FrontRoomCinema, asked himself why he always gave Nicholas Cage a chance. There are always these actors that you will watch, not matter which movie they are in. I must admit I have the same thing with Nicolas Cage, somehow I always enjoy watching him, no matter how bad the movie is. But I must confess that there are more actors that I will watch in almost any movie. So today’s question is:
Which actor/actress will you always watch, no matter in which movie they play in?
Arnold Schwarzenegger
He recently was the star of “The Many Faces of…” and out of all the actors and actresses I think he is the one where I had seen most of the movies he has been in. I might not rush out to see his movies at the cinema, but I always do want to watch them.
Bruce Willis
I still remember when Bruce Willis was an actor on TV (he starred in Moonlighting) and although not all the movies he starred in have been good I always make sure that I see whatever new movie he is in.
Matt Damon
Although I always immediately have to think of Team America whenever I hear his name, I think he is one of the coolest actors around. He’s always good in any role he plays and has shown he can do both action and drama.
Emma Stone
Although she might not have such a long career as the other actors on the list, Emma Stone managed to cast her spell on me with her roles in Paper Man and Easy A. I think she’s such a talented actress, who I hope has a very long career ahead of her. Can’t get enough of her.
I’m sure there are a lot of other ones I can’t think of right now, so it’s time now for you to answer the question:
Which actor(s)/actress(es) will you always watch, no matter in which movie they play in?
HAHA thanks for the link matey!!
I am totally with you on Emma Stone too!! She is cool, sexy and a great actor
Nice to see you like her as well…
Ow wow…I made the same list like this before π
Here’s the link if you are interested> http://bokunosekai.wordpress.com/2011/07/12/they-whom-i-will-always-watch-top-5-plus-2/
I always watch Arnie’s movies too when I was younger, it was because he has fun movies.
Interesting list. I’m with you on Copley! Although he hasn’t been in too many movies he is an amazing actor!
That’s a great question mate but I am finding it a tad hard to answer…
I used to give Arnie a pass on most things that he did but this stopped around ‘Collateral Damage’ and ‘The Sixth Day’. It just seemed that it was same old same old and even though I was a big fan I just couldn’t bring myself to watching them. Even with his latest film ‘The Last Stand’, I want to see him back on the big screen but haven’t seen this before?
So as much as I would love to say that I would give someone the benefit of the doubt and watch it regardless I am not so sure anymore…
Good article though π
Well, look at Jason Statham movies where he’s the same almost every time. It means you can expect pretty much the same and I’m sure a time will come where I will have the same feeling about him as you currently have for Arnold.
I think there are no actors that will make me see a film no matter what. However there are a few who will make me see a film i would not nessicarily see otherwise.
Anthony Hopkins
Edward Norton
Jake Gyldenhaal
Nicole Kidman -> Not really sure about this one, but she has her moments.
No matter what is very strong as well and I do skip some of the movies of the actors I’ve named here.
Those are some great actors as well. I’m with you on Edward Norton!
There are only two actors who I try to make a point of of watching every film they’re in.
One is Jason Statham, the greatest action star of the millenium. Sure, a lot of films he’s in aren’t that good, but I always know what to expect from him. He nearly always plays the same type of character, but he does it well and has a great sense of charisma. And every now and then, he’ll appear in something great like Crank or The Transporter. I’ve seen over 20 films with him and still have a few to go until I’ve seen them all.
The other one is the lovely Shannyn Sossamon. Not the greatest actress in the world or anything, but that smile! Going through her filmography is more often than not disappointing, though. She started off strong with A Knight’s Tale and The Rules of Attraction, but then got bumped down to brief supporting turns in films like The Holiday and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, or starring roles in terrible horror films. I’m hoping last year’s Road to Nowhere will lead to some kind of comeback for her. It was definitely the best performance I’ve seen from her. I’ve seen 10 of her films so far.
Yeah, Statham is awesome in almost anything he does! He’s funny too.
Don’t know much about Shannyn Sossamon, although I do remember seeing her in some movies like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang…
I feel the same way about Emma Stone π I haven’t watch Paperman. She’s just refreshing to see, interesting to look at (and I’m a girl haha)
I think it was the first movie I saw her in. Funny to hear that women like watching her as well
I’m sure there’s actors I feel that way more about than anyone else (like right now it’s Michael Fassbender) I guess one of my favorite actors is Al Pacino. He has been in some really terrible movies so I haven’t watched them all, but most of them are above the side of good.
Pacino used to be like that for me as well (just like De Niro), but now I don’t get excited about movies they are in anymore. Shame really…
Good question. I used to watch every Adam Sandler film no matter the subject or the reviews but that has changed lately because he continues to let me down with some truly awful films.
But there are actors I always love to watch – Gary Oldman, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Downey Jr., Johnny Depp to mention four off the top of my head.
Sandler? I used to watch quite a lot of his movies as well, but that was ages ago. He usually does seem to be the same character in almost everything he does.
Robert Downey Jr. can be added to my list as well…
I love the question! Well, lately I have been watching anything that has to do with Emma Stone, Michael Fassbender and Jessica Chastain, but I also love Garrett Hedlund and Paul Bettany.
Thanks Aziza! Great choices as well although I had to admit I had to look up some of them…
Well, considering my GP obsession right now, Gregory Peck is my answer π But even so, I draw the line if the film is horror or super disturbing, but fortunately there are only a couple of his movies I won’t watch. I do love Emma Stone, she’s just adorable! And I still like Bruce Willis after his first Die Hard flick, he’s always enjoyable to watch though he’s not exactly the greatest actor.
Hahaha, that’s no surprise, you’ve been writing about him a lot!
Hi, Nostra and company:
Great question for an overcast Monday!
In no particular order:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Saw him in Killshot last night and Levitt did not disappoint as an obnoxiously creepy psychopath! Been following his career since Third Rock from the Sun and he just gets better and better!
Emily Blunt: Caught my attention as the anorexic assistant in The Devil Wears Prada , It was a joy watching her steal every scene she shared with Anne Hathaway.
Tom Hardy: Caught my eye early on in Layer Cake and have been pleased with his progress ever since.
Timothy Hutton: Stole the thunder of Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland and Judd Hirsch in Ordinary People and hasn’t turned in a bad performance in film or television. In front of or behind the camera. His Nero Wolfe Mysteries are superb ensemble period pieces!
Ellen Page: Rocked out loud as Little Red Riding Hood in Hard Candy . Consistently
turns in memorable roles in larger and larger films. Looking forward to greater things in her future.
Those are some nice choices and you can add Tom Hardy to my list as well. Saw him recently in Warrior and he was so amazing in that!
Interesting question Nostra π For me, Christian Bale, Rachel McAdams, and Russell Crowe would be the main ones. Emma Stone could probably be in that category soon but I still need to see Crazy Stupid Love and The Help when they get on DVD.
I try my best to make them interesting each week! I forgot Christian Bale! ALthough I must say that I won’t watch American Psycho as I assume it’s not a movie I will enjoy.
She was good in The Help and Crazy Stupid Love….
I have two actors who I love. Interestingly, I haven’t actually seen all of their films, but if I ever come across a movie starring them, I’m very likely to rent it. They are Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Huppert.
Haven’t seen Juliette Binoche in many movies, but she is a very good actress. I don’t know Huppert to be honest.
I have to go with Bruce Willis. In Indian cinema Shah Rukh Khan used to be one of those actors, but considering the fact I have missed his last two movies I guess he is out. In general I’m more likely to watch movies of action stars regularly than any other.
I’ve seen Shah Rukh Khan in two or three movies and know how big he is in India. Hard to judge his acting on so few movies though…
This is always a fun topic! For me, I usually watch Scarlett Johansson films (as indicated on today’s post/tribute for her)! I also have to watch Denzel Washington films along with Christopher Nolan (although I know he’s a director and not an actor).
I see quite a bit of Emma Stone, Ewan MacGregor, Adam Sandler, Will Smith, and Gwyneth Paltrow lately.
Johansson is always nice to look at so I can completely understand π
Yeah, Washington usually has good movies so I watch his movies too…pretty much anything he’s in.
Ooh, good question! Off the top of my head I’d say Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Actually, after reading everyone else’s comments, add Rachel McAdams, Jake Gyllenhaal and Emily Blunt to my list as well! π
DiCaprio is another great one I forgot to mention. My list should have been longer with all the one people are naming.
Actually, I don’t think there is any one actor/actress that I would always want to watch; too many that I like have also been in some completely rubbish. I’m more likely to stick with a particular director rather than actor; Spielberg, Nolan, Jackson, Snyder to name a few.
Yeah, almost every actor has some bad movies but in the end they have to make a living as well…
I might have to do one of these questions about directors as well….
