Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010)

As you know I stay away from horror movies and looking at the images of this it was a movie I skipped and wasn’t planning to watch. A friend of mine brought it along and insisted on watching it though and told me that this is not a scary movie. So we decided to watch it.

What this movie does is take the standard story of a couple of teenagers who camp in the woods and are attacked by some scary men and twists it around in a comedy where we see the side of the supposedly scary men, Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine), who turn out to be two friends who only try to go fishing and help and are misunderstood by the group. It’s an original approach and results in a very funny movie, where the bad guys are actually the school kids and Tucker and Dale are the ones getting scared.

Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine are a funny duo who really manage to carry the movie. The high school kids are mainly there for the deaths (like they would be in a normal horror movie) and are not that memorable. The “leader” of the group is overacting a lot, but I thought it was part of the charm of this movie.

Tucker & Dale vs Evil

Now this movie does offer a lot of gruesome deaths, but just like in Zombieland they somehow are something to laugh about because of the way they happen and are usually accidental. I was happily surprised by it and had fun watching it. So it is worth a watch if you haven’t yet.

  1. This movie is a blast. Glad to hear you enjoyed it as well, Nostra.

Some advice for those who haven’t seen it, though: DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER. Unfortunately, it gives away most of the gags from the movie.

  2. I’m surprised to hear good things about this movie. I always thought it was a direct-to-video movie! I’m going to give it a shot one of these days 😀
