The Many Faces of… Matt Damon

Welcome to the 25th installment of “The Many Faces of…”, this week starring Matt Damon!

Damon grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts and lived close to Ben Affleck, who has been a friend of his since he was little and with whom he still collaborates. I high school he acted in several plays. He went to Harvard University but did not graduate as he decided to head to LA to pursue an acting career. He started acting in small movies (his first at 18 in Mystic Pizza) and starred together with Gene Hackman in Geronimo: An American Legend in 1992. He was willing to do a lot for his roles and proved so in 1996 when he lost 18 kg for his role in Courage Under Fire (he had to take medication for years after it because it took a big toll on his body). His big breaktrhough came with Good Will Hunting. Together with Ben Affleck he won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. After this his career took off and starred in popular franchises as the Oceans and Bourne series.

My favorite role of his is as Jason Bourne, especially since he speaks some Dutch in the first movie.

What’s your favorite Matt Damon role?

  1. I am kinda a big fan of Damon. It probably started with The Talented Mr. Ripley. Boy was he creepy, but in that excellent sort of way.

He was hands down amazing in Good Will Hunting and The Departed. Love his more comedic work in The Informant and the Oceans series.

Though I think my favourite role of his is the same as yours – Jason Bourne. He nailed it. He will forever be Jason Bourne to me.

  2. Matt Damon !!!! Thats a running joke around my house, I like to utter that Team America style to crack up my wife. I do enjoy him as an actor as well. My favorite role would be a toss up between Good Will Hunting and any of the Bourne films. Good choice for your many faces of post.

    • Hahaha, that is also still a running gag amongst my friends as well. I liked the story behind that. When the makers saw the puppet they thought it looked a bit retarded and because of that came up with that joke 🙂

  3. 25th installment, woo hoo! This is a great series you’ve got here Nostra. Y’know, Matt is one of those actors who I respect more and more. Initially I was sort of meh about him until those Bourne movies came along.

  4. My favorite of Matt Damon would have to be The Departed so far because he plays the bad guy. He is an interesting actor to watch although overall, his roles haven’t been all that exciting to me.

  5. Like so many here, I am also a big fan of Matt D!

My fave still has to be the Bourne series. So iconic and really showed off some of his action capability on top of other types of roles. Great choice for the 25th installment!

    Thanks for continuing this feature!
