Mansome is the latest documentary from Morgan Spurlock, who is known for his light-hearted way of making documentaries. They are usually more entertaining than informative and if you know this going in they can be very entertaining. This documentary is all about male grooming. What makes a man a man?
The documentary consists of various subjects, including the mustache (and Spurlock shaving it off resulting in a funny reaction by his son), a man who competes in beard competition (which according to him is a sport), a guy who considers himself a metrosexual and is never happy with how he looks and even a business selling a product called Fresh Balls which seems to live up to its name. All these segments are followed by Will Arnett and Jason Bateman visiting a spa and talking about what it means to be a man. Personally I didn’t enjoy the two talking and thought it didn’t add much to the documentary.
When I finished watching this I didn’t have the feeling I learned much, but it was fun watching it. Some interviews are hilarious (especially the one with Zach Galifianakis) and the various people who are followed are interesting to watch.

May have to give this one a look.
Just don’t go into this expecting something amazing. If you can enjoy the trailer, you’ll enjoy the movie.
I’d never even heard of this one! Looks like it’ll do for something that doesn’t require me to think too much!
Yes, it’s perfect for that 🙂
Like you say, entertaining rather than ‘educational’ or informative with his work. I’d give it a watch if it were to come on tv sometime.
Yeah, no need to immediately start searching for it, but perfect tv watching..
Sounds interesting, but it seems like it should have been made several years ago when everyone was running around calling men who groomed “metrosexuals.”
It does touch upon that, although it isn’t the main focus.
Reblogged this on WordPress Report.
Thanks!
I wasn’t sure on watching this one. I’m not a fan of Morgan Spurlock but I lake both Will Arnett and James Bateman. Nice review.
Sorry, Jason Bateman.
Spurlock is only in it for one segment, so you don’t see much of him. It’s mostly men talking about their thoughts on men and women talking about what they find attractive.
I quite like Spurlock as a filmmaker, and have been keen to check this out. I don’t know about elsewhere, but here in Australia his films have sort of fallen off the radar recently. This one did not get a cinematic release as far as I know, and I haven’t spotted it on DVD as yet either.
I watched it on iTunes, so maybe it’s available over there through it as well.
Cool, thanks for the tip. Will look into that.
Hm, sounds different. Might have to check it out!
Hope you’ll enjoy it
