Professor John Oldman (David Lee Smith) has decided to stop his work at the university, back his bags and move somewhere else. His friends and colleagues decide to give him a farewell party at his house. He’s loved by those around him, so they wonder why he has decided to leave. It seems like he never ages and when he tells he actually doesn’t and has been living for 14,000 years they do not believe him. The immediate connection I made while watching this was a version of Highlander without the swords and a fighting. Can that be worth watching?
What follows is actually an intellectual discussion about his life. If he has really lived 14,000 years, how is he able to prove that? Does the knowledge he has gained since he was a caveman helped him in any way? How does he deal with his situation? Does he believe in God? The conversation goes from one topic to the next and all question you might want to ask such a person are asked and discussed in detail, which I thought made for a very interesting film.
The movie looks like a budget movie and doesn’t really have any well-known actors, but this movie proves you don’t need high production values and a star-studded cast to make something which can hold your attention. Just as Oldman’s friends you as the viewer start to wonder if he really is telling the truth or making up an elaborate story to fool everyone. If you are looking for lots of action or various sets you have to look somewhere else, but if you want to watch a compelling story then The Man from Earth is worth checking out.
Good Review!
It was such a weird film. The whole movie takes place in one room but hell it kept me interested until the end. It is definitely a movie worth checking out.
Thanks Erik, it is a very unique movie which not too many people seems to have watched.
I think not 🙂
