Audi in the Movies

Although most people won’t go to the movies for a specific cars, they are very important for creating an image for the main characters. If you hear James Bond, you automatically know what kind of car he will be driving (an Aston Martin), Batman has the Tumbler and there are many more examples. They are a great way for car manufacturers to get their product in the spotlight and the image of the car to add to the image of the character. When you hear of Audi, I immediately think about Jason Statham in the Transporter, but there are some other great examples as the image below shows.

The above are all cars which you could buy, but one of the most iconic Audi cars is not in it (and is a car you will not be able to buy), the one Will Smith uses in I, Robot.

What’s your favorite movie car?

    • Well, the characters which need to be cool usually don’t, but I do remember in Pineapple Express one of the guys drives a Daewoo Lanos and even mentions it when he uses it to kill a bad guy. I always will remember that scene because my first car was a Lanos 🙂

  1. The Bugatti Veyron is so noticeable and I believe there is one in F&F 6. Personally, I’m very attached to the Merc SLS (don’t know in which movies I’ve seen them in) but I loved seeing the Minis in “The Italian Job” with Wahlberg and Theron.

    • That movie series always has cool cars (it’s in the series DNA of course), looking forward to watching F&F 6.

The minis are cool indeed, although I prefer the original cars in the original Italian Job.

    • Yeah, you can…it isn’t exclusive content, but thought I’d add little bits to make it interesting for everyone. Have to pay some bills too 😉

    • I actually checked IMDB for the A8 and came up with this:
“In a 2008 readers poll conducted by CAR magazine, 4 cars featured in this movie merited ranks in the magazine’s “Top 40 Coolest Movie Cars” issue: Audi S8 (9th), Citroën XM & Peugeot 605 (24th) and BMW 535i (29th). Other featured vehicles included, Peugeot 406, Citroën Xantia, Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9, and a rare modified Mercedes-Benz W116.”

  2. Not just in movies, but TV. I remember “Spenser for Hire” based on the Robert Parker novels. It was shot in Boston where we live. We marveled at (a) his ability to always find a parking place right where he had to be. (b) He NEVER got towed or even ticketed; in Boston if you stop too long at a stop sign, they’ll tow the car with you in it.(3) He could take the Tobin Bridge from East Boston and exit in Newton, west of Boston, a trick envied by every commuter who fought his/her way through traffic in hopes of getting home before Christmas. I don’t like watching movies made in cities I know well because I get distracted and wind up waving my arms yelling “You can’t DO that!” My husband says I should just shut up. Probably he is right.

    • Hahaha, especially if you live somewhere where a movie or TV show takes place that can be really distracting. I have seen two Dutch movies set in Rotterdam and one by Jackie Chang also filmed here and they went through the city in impossible ways. For one they even ended up in a different city for a couple of seconds!
