Weight. Each and every movie carries some weight with it. There are movies like Schindler’s list which makes you feel like you have cement on your feet and you are being pulled to the bottom of the ocean, others will push you against a wall and make you think about what you have seen. Then there are the movies which will put you on a cloud, away from everything around you, managing to stay in your mind and keep you on that high for some time after watching them. If The Internship had weight it would best be described as a helium balloon, it is very light, can take you up and make you laugh if you inhale some of the helium, but it won’t take long before you are back on earth.
Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson play two friends who have been in sales for years. They prepare their meeting extensively, but are shocked when they suddenly hear that the company they work for no longer exist. With not much to fall back on the two will have to find a new purpose in their lives. Vaughn’s character gets an idea, which is to do an internship at Google. As two old guys they stand out among the young and bright who also apply, but when they have to work in a team they might have some experience which can benefit the others.
Going into this my expectations were very low. The movie hasn’t been getting positive reviews but I was interested in at least checking it out to confirm it was bad myself. But I have to admit I enjoyed it a lot more than anticipated. As a comedy it might be light on jokes and the idea of various teams competing to win something isn’t new either (this year we already saw it before in Monsters University), but this to me was a nice, light and uplifting comedy. Sure it has a lot of things you have some before and yes, you will now exactly how everything will turn out, but in this case I could forgive the movie for all of that. The combination of Vaughn and Wilson worked for me. The supporting cast was underused a bit, but the chemistry between the team members came across. So it you are in the mood for playing with a helium balloon then this might be the one you want to check out.
Think you enjoyed this film a bit more than me. It was very predictable. Had some good moment. But the predictability got to me a bit. Bored me. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are brilliant together thought, wish they’d do more films together.
I completely agree that it was predictable but in this case I just didn’t mind it at all…guess I was in the perfect mood for a movie like this at the time.
I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Me as well…actually was not planning on seeing this but my wife really wanted to. So i reluctantly watched it but had a great time with it.
Nice review Nostra. Seems like Wilson and Vaughn have some intense growing-up to do as their flicks just aren’t funny anymore. Neither are their child-like antics.
I guess to each his own, I did like it here but understand it is not for everyone.
I can’t say I liked this movie. It wasn’t as funny as I had hoped. Glad to see you enjoyed it though.
If there is one genre where tastes vary greatly it is in comedies 🙂
I like what you said about the weight thing, Nostra. I might give it a rent just for the laughs, the trailer does look like a hoot. Not every movie has to be so heavy anyway, glad this one was entertaining.
It definitely was for me. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy it as much as I did Ruth!
I didnt get the hate for this either because I liked this movie as well. Nothing special but I adored the cast. Great review
Thanks Shawna!
