It’s the start of a fresh year and after looking back at 2013 it is time to look ahead and set some goals for 2014:
Which movie related goals have you set for yourself this year? (mine after the jump)
I managed to reach almost all of my goals (except for seeing two movies at the cinema per month). Time to set some new goals.
Movie related goals
– Watch at least 300 movies (a goal which I have managed to reach in the past years, but I want to reach it again)
– Try to see at least two movies a month at the cinema. I have set this goal again, because if I do not visit the cinema two times a month I should just give up my unlimited cinema card as it won’t be worth it.
– Last year I watched a couple of TV shows and this year there are a couple I want to see: House of Cards (season 2), Lilyhammer (season 2) and The Bridge (season 2). There are also several TV show boxsets in the house which I have never watched: Oz (the complete series), Deadwood (season 3), Dexter (season 1), The Borgias (season 1) and The Bridge. Last year my goal was to watch at least two seasons of a show, this year I will set my goal to at least four.
Blogging related goals
– Start at least two new blogathons (the first one will be announced on the 20th this month)
– Write some guest posts (if you want me to write one for your blog, please let me know)
– Finish my “The Lost Cinemas of Rotterdam” project. I started the series two years ago, but stopped. Want to pick it up again. To make sure I will actually do it I will start with the first one this week.
– Do some interviews
Which movie related goals have you set for yourself this year?
I didn’t make any original plans for any film resolutions but over the past few days, I have made some resolutions based on my watchlist for the year. I hope to complete these following trilogies: Godfrey Reggio’s Qatsi trilogy, Pasolini’s Trilogy of Life, Fassbinder’s BRD trilogy, Rossellini’s War Trilogy, and Bergman’s faith trilogy.
That is a big list and a lot of movies I have not seen before. Those trilogies remind me I have to check out the Three Colors trilogy this year!
I have a few goals:
1. Leave comments on reviews that I read. It only takes an extra minute or two and I know the blogger will appreciate it.
2. Do a ‘theme week’ where I write reviews of movies from a specific actor, director, genre, etc.
3. Join more blogathons. I did two blogathons in 2013 and I thought it was fun! So maybe this year I will do as many as possible.
4. Work on my social media strategy. I have Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Tumblr, and Instagram accounts that I use frequently but my accounts don’t link back to each other and sometimes I don’t post the same movie/TV related content to each site. I need to figure out how I want to use each site and then be consistent.
Yeah, I’m trying to respond quicker to new comments and leave comments too when possible. Theme week sounds good!
If you want to participate in a blogathon you can join one here later this month 🙂
Facebook/Twitter etc take up a lot of time, which I personally don’t have, if I did I would probably spend more time on them as well.
I set a bunch of goals in 2013 and think I did a pretty good job meeting them. For 2014, I’m keeping it simpler and just want to watch interesting movies, grow the blog, and interact with a lot more movie fans in the online community.
So simple goals, but ones that should have positive results!
My resolution this year is to have watched all of the imdb Top 250. I’ve taken down a list (so that it doesn’t change) and I’ll make sure I’ve seen them all.
At the moment, I’ve seen 105, so only 145 to go.
Good luck with that. I got pretty close two years ago, but I was not working with a fixed list 🙂 Good luck with it and there are awesome movies on that list.
I think the main one for me is to catch up on some classics I haven’t seen yet, there’s plenty of them! I also want to host another blogathon and maybe join in with a few more this year too.
Oh and I would also quite like to vary the stuff on my site a little more. It’s largely reviews at the moment but I’d like to mix up a bit what’s on there.
Currently I have the feeling I have seen many of the classics I wanted to check out. Sure there are still a ton I have not seen yet, but I will get through those eventually.
Interested in seeing what your blogathon will be and hope you will join mine later this month.
I know what you mean with variation. I want to do some different things this year as well. Don’t want to become too predictable 😉
Good goals. That is a lot of viewing between the 300 movies and the TV series.
I haven’t decided on my goals, but at the least I want to keep up with the comic strip I do on Wednesday, and at least one review per week–which is more challenging now.
I think the number of movies I saw the past year could have been higher if I had not seen two seasons of those TV shows. Hope will be able to do that 300 with more TV shows. We will see at the end of the year.
I can understand, but even I manage to put up a couple of reviews a week and that is with 3 kids! 🙂
Hi Nostra, those are all great resolutions! Well you already know mine but I’d like to try to read LESS about certain films, like you suggested, we’ll see how that goes. I’ve been surprised by a few films I didn’t know anything about and it felt good!
Hope you will be able to do that Ruth and it will be interesting to read about your experience.
About the only goal I have is to review films closer to their theatrical or DVD/Blu release dates. I’m so far behind it’s taking me three months to catch up to everyone else!!!
I am so far behind sometimes (especially on the Dutch version of this blog) that it is something I should also do something about. As long as you do not feel pressured to watch something because everyone else does!
Surprise surprise, Nostra blogathons are in the works 🙂
In 2014, I’ll be doing Ryan McNeil’s blind spot series(12 reviews).
Other than that, I don’t have anything definite planned. I have letterboxd watchlists divided into film noir, documentaries, animation, horror, and short films, just in no rush to watch them all.
Of course they are…have two other ideas for blogathons and one of those I do not know how to implement it yet.
Succes with reaching those goals!
I am going to be reviewing more films I watch, currently review like 30% 🙁
I don’t review everything I watch either, but I kind of like it like that!
Nice question. I don’t have any major goals, but I do wish to finish off some filmographies of my favorite filmmakers.
Which ones are you planning to finish off?
Those are great resolutions! I don’t think i would be able to bring myself to 300 films a year. I watched somewhere around 235 films but it was mixed with shorts. 😀
One of my goals this year is definitely doing more interviews to filmmakers (realistically maybe 3-4 this year). thanks to your 5 obstructions blogathon i was encouraged to do more 😀
It is a lot, but for the last three years I have been able to reach that, so think I will probably do it now as well.
So happy to hear that the blogathon encouraged you to do that!
I am going to revive Sydney Quotes the movies at least once a month and then watch 50 movies at the theater. I am interested in your blogathon. I enjoyed the Obstruction blogathon last year and hate I didn’t finish.
50 movies at the theater is quite a lot. I simply do not have the time to do so, even though I gladly would like to.
I haven’t decided my movie related goal in 2014 yet…as for blogging, I want to have more book review.
Happy new year Nostra 🙂
I don’t take the time for reading, but sometimes listen to audiobooks if I can.
I have started the habit of listening audiobook last year…but can focus well when Benedict is the one reading it 😉
Hahaha, knowing how you like him I can imagine 😉
I make personal lineups, so my goal is to watch more films from previous years to fill in some of the blanks in my lineups.
Are there a lot of blanks? Also wondering how you keep track of it.
Just in the technical categories.
I have an excel spreadsheet 🙂
