This week will be filled with art related reviews: The Monuments Men, The Best Offer and The Art of the Steal. There is quite a choice when it comes to movies involving art. Whether it is documentaries like Exit through the Gift Shop or F for Fake or heist movies where precious paintings are stolen.
So I would like to ask you:
What are your favorite films involving art?
I would say Exit Through the Gift Shop, Basquiat, and Girl with a Pearl Earring.
Have not seen those last two, added to my list!
Documentaries:
“Herb & Dorthy”
“Bill Cunningham’s New York”
“My Kid Could Paint That”
Feature:
“The Thomas Crown Affair” – remake
Have seen My Kid Could Paint That, which I found interesting and totally made clear that the child probably did not do what the father claimed. Have not heard of the two other documentaries. Like you I really enjoyed The Thomas Crown Affair, it was a movie which felt like it had lots of class.
Another mention for Exit Through the Gift Shop. Another documentary I quite enjoyed was Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry. Hiro Dreams of Sushi is about the culinary arts and is every bit as elegant as any painting. As for regular movies I quite enjoyed Frida and American Splendor.
Have not seen Ai Weiwei, but Hiro was indeed culinary art 🙂
Frida and American Splendor are also two films I have not watched…
Off the top of my head I’d say Exit Through The Gift Shop. Great documentary.
Yeah, one I have seen at least two or three times…so entertaining while also giving commentary on the world of art.
