Lots of people are probably not aware that Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston already has had a long career. Looking at his IMDB profile he already has 132 TV show and movie titles to his name. Thanks to his role as the meth making scientist in Breaking Bad he became well-known and he appeared in some high-profile movies like Drive, John Carter, Total Recall, Argo and Godzilla. In most of these movies he had supporting roles, but in this movie the 58-year-old actor is starring, together with Alice Eve.
Topo (Bryan Cranston) is a visually impaired professional criminal, who together with his partner, is on his way to deliver a package. They stop at a motel that is being run by Chloe (Alice Eve). She lives there together with her daughter and child care is threatening to take away her daughter if she doesn’t move as the motel regularly is in trouble because of prostitution and drug dealing. Chloe is stuck in her situation though as she does not have enough cash to move. When something unexpected happens at the motel she is forced to work together with Topo. It is the start of a dangerous and chaotic search in which she has to fear for her life.
Cold Comes the Night should be an exciting thriller where you are on the edge of your seat throughout the film, but unfortunately fails to do that. Cranston plays his character with a thick Eastern European accent and I kept wondering why this was necessary. It does not add much to the story or his character. He plays the role as good as he can, but because of the disappointing script the whole movie does not feel like a complete package. I never felt the characters were in danger and also didn’t think the relationship between the two main characters felt realistic. Even though it had some unexpected moments, as a whole the movie simply disappointed.
I watched this right after Breaking Bad ended, and I did not like this movie. The boyfriend was just painful, and I didn’t buy either Cranston or Eve in their parts. It was a real mess.
Yeah, it doesn’t hold a candle to it and like you say the characters are not that convincing.

I had heard some good things about this film but still haven’t checked it out. It does sound interesting despite its flaws and I like Cranston as an actor. I’ll probably give it a go this weekend.
Interested to hear your thoughts on it!
