Expendables 4 Wish list

We are drawing ever closer to The Expendables 3. The star studded action caper is scheduled for release on August 15 with Sly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson all starring. If, as to be expected, the film grosses well, the two prior between them grossed over $500million, it doesn’t take a betting man to predict that a fourth should be on its way.
So if there were to be a fourth instalment which remaining Hollywood action heroes should feature?

Steven Seagal

Just like Stallone and Schwarzenegger, Seagal is one of the most recognisable action heroes of the 1990s and one who needs to be in the franchise. With a 7th degree black belt in Aikido, Seagal will certainly be able to hold his own, while at 62-years-old he would probably be one of the more youthful cast members. You can’t have an ensemble action cast and not have Seagal it just isn’t right. However, in all fairness to Sly, he has reached out to Seagal and offered him a role in the past but Seagal has declined: in the first film he was not keen on producer Avi Lerner whilst Jean-Claude Van Damme, a man who has had trouble with Seagal before, was involved in the second film. Hopefully with Seagal’s work seemingly drying up he will take Stallone’s olive branch and make every fanboy’s day.

Jackie Chan

Jet Li portrays Yin Yang in The Expendables who, like Li, is a kung fu demigod. When someone asks you to name a living kung fu expert usually two names come up: Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Both are simply incredible and together they could put on some of the coolest, best choreographed fight scenes ever witnessed in Hollywood. The 2008 film Forbidden Kingdom was the only time we have seen the pair share a screen. There, however, they were fighting together not against each other. It would be great to get Chan in The Expendables but it would also be weird seeing him having to play the role of the antagonist.

Michelle Rodriguez

With current female UFC champion Ronda Rousey involved in the third film it is only fitting that she gets a real challenge in the fourth. Those that have seen Rodriguez as “Letty” in The Fast and Furious films will know she is certainly up to the challenge. Rodriguez is the epitome of a tom-boy, her feisty nature crossed with her aesthetic good looks would make her a welcome addition to The Expendables family.

Kurt Russell

For many men, the name Snake Plissken should be etched in their memory. Escape from New York and Escape from L.A. are two of the greatest action films of all time, whilst Russell’s one-eyed anti-hero Plissken seemed like the coolest man on the planet. Like Seagal, Russel would bring a sense of legitimacy to the movie. Whilst his wise-crackin’ attitude will bounce nicely off Stallone and Jason Statham.

  1. Those are good picks Nostra, surprised Seagal is not part of the team! Nice idea with Rodriguez, the age difference is a bit awkward though. They need older female characters 🙂 Bring back Linda Hamilton or someone.

  2. Did you ever see Michelle Rodriguez in Girl Fight? I think that was her first film. Tell she was an action chick from there!

Definitely agree with Jackie Chan. Linda Hamilton or Sigourney Weaver would be fantastic, as female action hero sort of girls. Right kind of era too.

Can’t think of many action film actors they have missed out though!

  3. Meh, NOT Steven Seagal! Can’t stand him. But yes on the rest, esp Jackie Chan! I like Chris’ idea of bringing Linda Hamilton, and also Sigourney Weaver, I mean Ripley can kick all those guys’ butts 😀

    • His first 4 or 5 movies were cool. I like that idea of Hamilton and Weaver as well. I remember there being plans to making a female version of Expendables, but don’t know if that was really going to happen.

  4. That’s easy, Kurt Russell and Jackie Chan. They’re perfect for those films. Steven Seagal, fuck no. He’s a fat whiny bitch who runs like a bitch and act likes a bitch.

Plus, I have a wildcard on who should be in the film that will add more legitimacy to the badassness of the franchise….

    Meryl Streep.

    • When looking for an image of Seagal I was surprised how much weight he gained. Still he was such a big action movie star in the nineties he just belongs in these movies.

Meryl Streep? wow, that is a very surprising choice 🙂

  5. Awesome post! 🙂
I have no doubts Rodriguez is an awesome action star but she is a tad young. How about Michelle Yeoh? Get some of her ass kicking abilities on the show ;)Although she seems to be veering away from action movies in the last few years.

    • The name doesn’t ring a bell, but I guess you are right when it comes to Rodriguez and her age….but they had Thor’s brother 😉 in the last one, so she could play a role like that as someone’s daughter or something.
