2015 Blindspot series

2015 Blind Spot Series

The last couple of years I’ve seen a lot of fellow bloggers participating in the Blindspot series, in which they pick classic movies they have not seen yet and should be part of their “movie knowledge”. When I saw posts by both Ruth from Flixchatter and Dan from Public Transportation Snob I thought this had to be the year I’d join in as well. My picks consist of movies that have been in my to watch list for way too long or I’ve seen praised by other bloggers (for example I know that The Last Starfighter had a big impact on Rodney from Fernby Films).

So here is my list, consisting of thirteen titles:

1. Nashville
2. Almost Famous
3. Harold and Maude
4. Three colours trilogy: Red
5. Three colours trilogy: White
6. Three colours trilogy: Blue
7. The Hudsucker Proxy
8. The Insider
9. The Right Stuff
10. Aguirre, the Wrath of God
11. 10 Things I Hate About You
12. The Last Starfighter
13. Dangerous Liaisons

  1. I love Almost Famous and 10 Things! I nearly put the three colors trilogy on my list as well. Then I switched to the Before trilogy, then I just removed them both all together. So many decisions lol

    • Brittani, you should get to watching the Before trilogy as soon as you can! It is my favourite trilogy of all time and the only trilogy where I have given each movie a perfect score. Just see each movie a month apart from each other to make you think a bit what will happen after each movie.

Hope I’ll manage to watch them all. If not, I’m sure some people in the comments will let me know that I’ve failed miserably 😉

  2. You’re in for a great year! The Colors Trilogy is incredible, Crowe delivers one of the best performances of the 90’s in The Insider, 10 Things I Hate About You is such a clever Shakespeare retelling and Harold and Maude is one of those cult classics that never gets old! Can’t wait to read your thoughts on all.

  3. Good list. Some I have watched, some I haven’t.

“Dangerous Liaisons” – with this and “Fatal Attraction” the year before, Glenn Close shredded her good wife/nice woman image in films
“The Hudsucker Proxy” – fun film
“The Last Starfighter” – I have a special place in my heart for this film–though the effects are seriously dated. Here is a quick read on why it hasn’t been remade despite much interest: http://www.slashfilm.com/steven-spielberg-last-starfighter-remake/
    “The Insider” – great performances
“The Right Stuff” – I can watch this film over and over again

This year I am going to work on my Criterion Collection series. For whatever reason I buy their releases of films I have not watched, and I still haven’t watched the films. “Harold & Maude” is in that collection.

Have fun. Can’t wait to read the reviews.

    • Happy to hear people are so positive about these films, so that makes me look forward to them even more. Good luck with getting through the Criterion collection ones.

    • I hope so as well. I guess you’ll have give some of the other ones on the list a watch as well looking at the comments by others saying how good they are 😉

    • I’ve got my fingers crossed I will. Having doubts about Nashville, as I might not like the music of that movie but I’ll give that a chance. Three Colors I’ve been meaning to watch for such a long time and I think this will be the final push for me to watch them.

  4. I’ve only seen three of these: Almost Famous, Harold and Maude, The Last Starfighter. The first two are legitimately excellent. The last, I haven’t watched in at least 25 years, but I’ve got fond childhood memories of it. I’m curious to see how it holds up. Might watch it again, myself.

    • Nice to see this post inspires you to watch that again. Never watched it as a child, so it be interesting to see how I’ll experience it without the nostalgia factor.

  5. Quite a solid selection here. 10 Things I Hate About You and Harold and Maude are brilliant pieces of work.

Also, inspired by your post, I wrote my own Blindspot post. Feel free to give it a read, and let me know your views on any of the films I’ve selected.

  6. Awesome! The two that really excite me on your list are Almost Famous and The Right Stuff. The first is one of my favorite films, and the second doesn’t receive nearly enough attention as one of the great American films of the 1980s. I’m glad that you decided to join.

  7. I’ve never seen the Three Colors trilogy but have seen every other films on the list. Aguirre, the Wrath of God is a masterpiece. Unfortunately I’m in the minority when it comes to Almost Famous, I was bored by it and I don’t think I even finished watching it. Hope you’ll enjoy it more than I did.

  8. Very cool that you’re doing this too, Nostra! I haven’t seen many here either, and I’ve been wanting to check out Three Colours Trilogy for ages, curious to hear your thoughts on them. I LOVE 10 Things I Hate About You, that’s perhaps one of my fave rom-coms.

    • Thanks Fernando. I know that movie isn’t as loved as the others, but since I haven’t seen it yet I thought I’d check it out. It’s still a Coen brothers film! I liked Almost Famous as you’ve seen from my review.

  9. Nice that you’re joining this too! I also have Three Colors Red among my BS list next year.

10 Things I hate about you is probably my favorite teen movie. Looking forward of what you think about Almost Famous!
