When it comes to children’s tv and movies there is one company which pretty much dominates that market, which is the Belgian Studio 54 which has a wide range of successful franchises. You’d almost forget that other companies make movies as well, but Labyrinthus is a great example of one checking out. An exciting movie for the older kids.
The story is about 14-year-old Frikke (Spencer Bogaert) who accidentally discovers a videogame that comes with a magical camera which is able to take a picture of something which immediately appears in the game world. The real object though either perishes or goes into coma. He discovers that a girl is trapped inside the game and he’s the only one able to free her. In a race against time he has to find out who is behind this evil game in order to save her.
Labyrinthus is a nice mystery story which pulls you into Frikke’s world. He quickly finds out the dangers of both the camera and game world and that he has to do everything he can to literally save lives. That game world has been realised in a fun way, with several environments including houses of cards, a landscape of old books or a 2d popup village. That variation keeps the movie from becoming monotonous and the bad guy, named Peck, is responsible for the danger and tension in the story. With its humor and drama it is a movie which will entertain both young and old.
