The Trip to Italy (2014)

Review The Trip to Italy

With the original The Trip Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon had a very successful show, which also worked as a feature length movie. They played made up versions of themselves who travelled through the north of the UK and visited several restaurants and talked about a lot of subjects. The most popular part of the show/movie were the moments where they were impersonating well-known characters or actors, like Michael Caine or James Bond. In the Trip to Italy the rainy UK is left behind and they set course to idyllic Italy.

Review The Trip to Italy

The chemistry between Coogan and Brydon is just as strong in this movie as it was in the original, with the two of them really meeting their match and wanting to outdo each other. The quick dialogue is filed with funny remarks and the impersonations are back again as well. They even discuss various films. The movie doesn’t have a lot of real story (Brydon has to send in an audition tape, try to keep his urges in check), but in this case that is not the reason you watch this film. It is all set against the backdrop of Italy. The location they visit, which have impressive hotels and beautiful views are, just like the food they are served, a pleasure to watch. Because of that The Trip to Italy really makes you feel like you just took a short holiday.

  1. I think I’d agree w/ the rating Nostra. I actually like the first movie more, it just made me laugh a bit more. Still the scenery is so gorgeous it was enjoyable. I also love the Bond impressions, ahah.

P.S. I just posted a guest review of a Dutch film Secrets of War yesterday. Have you seen it?

    • Yeah, the first one was a bit more tight, but still this one is enjoyable as well.

No, have not seen that movie, but I must admit that I hardly watch Dutch films 😉
