A movie about memory loss, a documentary about our dependence on oil and a time travel movie are just three examples of titles in this week’s countdown, closing out the first half of the My Filmviews Top 100.

60. Memento
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
This was the first Christopher Nolan movie I saw, which stood out with its unique way of telling a story (by going back into time in chunks it forces the viewer to try to remember everything). It’s a movie which still intrigues me.[My review]

59. Phone Booth
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
There are various movies which are set in one location, but out of all of them this remains my favorite. The tension is build up in a great way and in my opinion this is one of Colin Farrell’s best roles.

58. (500) Days of Summer
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
That romantic comedies can be different is something which is proven here. With great performances by both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel and various memorable scenes, including one set in Ikea and another in the form of a musical. [My review]
[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]
57. Magnolia
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
Memento was my first Nolan film and this was the first P.T. Anderson movie I saw. A complex, gripping story with almost nothing but great performances (Jullianne Moore, William H. Macy, John C. Reilly, Philip Baker Hall and Philip Seymour Hoffman). Even Tom Cruise plays a role you wouldn’t expect from him and does so with great determination.

56. Collapse
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
The next documentary in this top 100. Michael Ruppert (who committed suicide last year) talks during the whole running time and his story is one that you won’t forget. You don’t get told every day that our future, in our lifetime, won’t be very positive.[My review]
[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]
55. Snatch
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
With Snatch director Guy Ritchie shows how to make a high-speed, slick and funny crime caper with many memorable moments. Brad Pitt stands out as an unintelligible gypsy.
[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]
54. Timecrimes
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
Great film about time travel and how it can influence reality.[My review]
[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]
53. The Grand Budapest Hotel
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
Even though I initially wasn’t a fan of Wes Anderson, through the years he has managed to win me over as his movies became more accessible. It doesn’t happen a lot that I see movies at the cinema more than once, but it was the case for this one. Visually perfect, this entertaining story make it a movie which simply can’t bore me. [My review]
[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]
52. Moulin Rouge
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
If there is one thing which will stick with you after seeing this film it will be the way in which classic pop songs are mixed together effortlessly and acted out. Visually the movie is so stunning that the story (which is enjoyable) isn’t even that important.[My review]
[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]
51. Sin City
[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″][/mlprx]
Although the sequel really disappointed, the original Sin City was the first movie to successfully and almost literally brought a comic to life. Dark, raw but at the same time visually compelling it is a film which I can rewatch endlessly.

Excellent stretch here. The one I definitely wasn’t expecting to see is Phone Booth. Not one of my faves, but I did like it so I was pleasantly surprised to see it here. I love 51, 55, 58, and 60 enough to consider for my own top 100. Well, Memento is a definite.
It is nice to throw in some unexpected surprises and I really love that film even though it might not get much love. Nice to see some titles you’d include in your own top 100 as well.
So many great ones here, especially Sin City and (500) Days of Summer for me.
Really great films. It’s been a while since I both seen them, but really want to revisit them now 🙂
This list keeps on getting more and more interesting! HUGE fan of Moulin Rouge, Sin City, Budapest Hotel, Magnolia, 500 Days of Summer and Memento. I’ve only seen it once but I remember really enjoying Phone Booth when it came out.
Happy to hear that Fernando. Cool to see how much you liked those movies as well.
“Snatch”!!! Glad to see it here. That’s a film I would not expect to find in most people’s Top-100 list. I love it–and Brad Pitt’s incomprehensible accent,
It’s such a funny film and one I really love.
