Tokarev (2014)

Review Tokarev

It’s a shame to see how the careers of some actors or actresses develop. On the box of this movie it clearly states “Academy Award Winner” Nicolas Cage. What that cover doesn’t mention though is that he received that statue in 1996, almost 20 years ago and that the quality of the movies he stars in has taken a huge nosedive. The number of B-movies to his name keeps increasing, but there might be exceptions. Is Tokarev one of them?

Paul Maguire (Cage) is a former criminal who has left that life behind him and has started a successful career in construction. He lives together with his wife and daughter, but when he decides to go out with his wife his daughter is kidnapped. He asks his old crew to help find her. The result is a violent search, but will that result in them finding the daughter again?

Review Tokarev

Unfortunately Tokarev is a movie which is, just like many other recent Cage movies, hard to recommend. It is a boring film, which visually doesn’t stand out either. The characters are one dimensional and don’t manage to excite. Unfortunately I quickly found out who was behind the disappearance, making this is a long sit. I hope Nicolas Cage picks better movies in the future, because I’m slowly getting to the point that I actively start dodging any new projects he does.
