The Monday Question: Would you miss end credits?

The Monday Question

It’s the start of the week again and what better way to start with something to think about. This past weekend I had a strange dream. Now I normally can’t remember dreaming, but this one somehow stayed with me since it was movie related. I was at a cinema and when the movie finished there were no credits at the end of the movie. Since I was at a cinema which normally plays the better films some audience members got upset and actually started protesting and asking questions to the staff. It was such a weird situation and it made me think about ending credits.

There used to be a time when they simply weren’t there. You saw a couple of credits at the start of the movie and when the movie was done it only showed “The End”. It’s something I always like seeing and never mind, but I’m wondering about your opinion:

Would you miss end credits?

  1. No End Credits?

That depends on the presentation of the film, if it’s a roadshow with a booklet that features the credits. I’m fine with that. The idea of no end credits on a regular movie, oh hell no! I need to know who did this and who did that. It’s disrespectful to the people who made the films no matter how good or how bad it is. Unless it’s a Michael Bay film or a really bad movie.

  2. Oh yaz! I do miss the credits. Sometimes LMN and Hallmark show one or two names in large print and when they do show the credits it is in such tiny print that you can hardly see who the supporting cast is. At the end of the movie when they show the supporting cast in small print they run it through quite fast. I can deal with the speed because I can put the movie on pause but if the print is too small I do not know who the cast is. When the other channels like TCM, Showtime, etc show the credits they also show the name of the actor and the part he plays. YES give us credits. In fact DirecTV gives us the date of birth. That shows us a little more about the actor.

  3. If they’re used for something special, I’ll watch ’em. Tromeo and Juliet has hundreds of fake and funny entries into their credits, and 22 Jump Street projects all of the could-be sequels with fake posters.

Other than deliberately different ones, I’ll only watch them if I can’t remember an actor’s name, or couldn’t shazam a song.

  4. While I don’t sit in the cinema watching them, there’s something about them that shouts “the movies” that I would miss them if they weren’t there. There nearly as important as the production company idents to the overall “feel” of a movie experience.

  5. Been getting into the habit of sticking around for the credits. Either in the cinema or home. It’s kind of a nice “come down” after watching the film. I like to browse through the names – pick out some funny ones. Dunno, maybe it’s just a weird habit I’ve got into!
