During the last couple of years The Bridge (the original version) was a great show which managed to keep me entertained during its first two seasons. With its open ending at the end of season 2, I couldn’t wait to find out what Saga Norén (Sofia Helin) and Martin Rohde (Kim Bodnia) would go through next. Something which stands out at the start of this new season though is that Martin seems to be absent. Is the character of Saga enough to carry a whole season?
During this first episode this new season succeeds in building tension and mystery when a murdered woman is found in a crime scene which has been prepared by the killer. It is Saga who is put on the case and as the victim comes from Denmark she has to team up with a new partner. Eventually that turns out to be Henrik, a man who seems to have a very strange relationship with his wife and is struggling with his own issues. In some ways you could describe him as a male version of Saga. Together they end up in a web of murders which constantly makes you wonder who is guilty.
More time is spent during this third season to show more of Saga’s history. Sofia Helin plays the role as entertaining as ever and she makes the socially challenged police officer with the brown Porsche a character you’ll love, despite her flaws. Because of the focus on Saga you really forget about Martin, which proves how great this third season is. If you were fan of the first two seasons, this one offers more of the great stuff you’ve come to expect. If you don’t know the show you really should do yourself a favour and check it out.
They remade this one in the US didn’t they? Usually the original is always better so I won’t bother w/ the remake.
