Luckily I don’t have them often, but there are these days when everything you do seems to go wrong. Trains don’t run, appliances suddenly stop working, food doesn’t turn out the way you want, you name it. Murphy’s Law often seems to be right: Everything which can go wrong, will go wrong. And that’s exactly what the main character in this movie experiences himself.
Corrupt police officer Go Geon-so doesn’t seem to catch a break. The team he is part of is under investigation by internal affairs, he is about to be divorced and his mother has just passed away. He has to leave the funeral while it is happening, upsetting his family and while on the road he nearly hits a dog. While recovering from that moment a man steps in front of his car and doesn’t survive the crash. Because Go Geon-so can’t use any extra attention he decides to hide the body. This turns out to be only the start of his troubles when he is called by a man who claims to have seen him hit the man with his car.
It’s the first part of the movie which really is well-made, where the tension slowly is increased and some dark humour gives the viewer a moment to breathe. The scene in which Go Geon-so executes his plan to get rid of the corpse is not to be missed. It’s a shame though that once he has done that the rest of the movie becomes less convincing. Reason for this is that the mysterious caller turns out to be a man who is able to be everywhere at the right time and who can’t be neutralised. This is something which annoyed me, but if you are able to forgive the movie that this is an ok thrill ride.
Hmm 5 seems a bit low given the praise 😉 I’ve been meaning to watch this for a while, I want to see more Korean cinema
