There are exactly two things I remember about the Hitman movie from 2007:
1. Timothy Olyphant played the hitman
2. That that’s the only thing I can remember about the film
And after seeing this movie, which I assume is a reboot, I am certain that I will be saying the same thing about this movie in a couple of months as I will probably have forgotten everything about it.
The “Agent” program was once started to genetically improve men and turn them into effective and merciless killers. The Syndicate International organisation is searching for Dr. Litvenko, the man who started this program because they want to make new agents. Their first clue about his whereabouts is Katia van Dees (Hanna Ware), who has a connection with him. Agent 47 (Rupert Friend) is looking for her too though.
And that’s basically all the plot there is for this film (unless I already have forgotten) and so it’s a pretty empty story to turn into a complete film. Unfortunately that means that there isn’t any character development and no single moment in which the movie ask an emotional investment from the viewer. This is a typical example of style over substance, because there is one thing I have to admit: this movie looks good and the action scenes have some entertainment value. As a whole though? I think that it’s probably better to invest your time into the games on which this movie is based as they are probably more exciting. So the wait continues for the first movie based on a videogame which is worth watching.
I knew this wasn’t going to be any good. Once I heard Rupert Friend was going to play the hitman, the film was fucked. He’s a charisma-vacuum.
I never seen him in anything else (I think) but he doesn’t have charisma here ..agree with you there
