Review Now You See Me 2

The Four Horsemen are back! Well, at least that’s the feeling a lot of people had when the news broke that this sequel was getting made. I wasn’t excited at all. The original movie was slick and managed to entertain, but the twist at the end was so unbelievable that it took the feeling I had about the movie, threw it on the ground, built a stadium around it and had the chariot race from Spartacus run over it. It completely destroyed the movie for me and I really didn’t feel like having to go through that again. Still, the reviews of the sequel weren’t that bad, so I decided to give it a chance. Should I have?

The movie continues the story of the original (which because of my experience had buried so deep that you wouldn’t be able to find it in that black hole in Inside Out). Luckily you don’t need to remember the first film as the essentials are shown. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo<), Merrit McKinney (Woody Harrelson) and Jack Wilder (Dave Franco) are all back again, as are some other characters. The newest addition to the Horsemen is Lula (Lizzy Caplan). A role which Caplan plays in a fun way and which makes her a good addition to the team. “tight editing, fun tricks and some humour…”

An interesting fact is that illusionist David Copperfield was executive producer for this movie and helped thinking up the illusions shown in the movie. This time they aren’t as unbelievable, which made me enjoy all a lot more. Of course the group ends up in trouble again and in order to solve their issues have to get into a high security building to steal a chip. That scene is the highlight of the movie and would fit well in any heist movie. As you are watching you feel the adrenaline rushing through your body. Thanks to the tight editing, fun tricks and some humour it is a moment that stays with you. The ending didn’t manage to reach the same high for me, but luckily wasn’t as frustrating as the original. So this movie managed to surprise me in a good way, as it managed to exceed the low expectations I had for it.
