There are characters on the silver screen you love to spend time with and which you look forward to returning. Of course baby Groot is one of them, but so is the rest of the crew in Guardians. A group which was forced together through circumstances and which managed to win the hearts of movie audiences. With its humour, nostalgia for the eighties, strong soundtrack and lots of action that wasn’t a surprise. All those ingredients are present as well for this sequel. So if you have seen the original you probably won’t even hesitate going to the cinema to find out what adventures await the guardians this time.
The original introduced Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), also known as Star-Lord. After the death of his mother he went into space, was raised by space pirates lead by Yondu and was looking for information about his father. Together with Rocket, Groot, Drax and Gamora they now have an assignment to protect a planet, but through circumstances this doesn’t exactly go according to plan and on their way they meet Ego (Kurt Russell), who takes them to his planet and can possibly provide answers to Star-Lord’s questions.
Volume 2 delivers exactly what you’d expect and in this case that isn’t a bad thing. The light tone of the original is present here as well, with each scene filled with jokes. As a viewer you are treated to a fun popcorn movie with lots of spectacle. Although there is a threat which could have huge consequences for the Galaxy, you never really get the feeling that it’s the most important thing, which is a shame. The result is that you never get the feeling that the stakes are high. The focus is mainly on the personal relationships between the characters. You could compare it to the way the last couple of Fast & Furious movies kept mentioning family, it was also the through line here. Still, if you want to forget the rest of the world for a moment, then Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 manages to do that as you will have a great time at the cinema visiting those familiar characters you want to be around.
Solid review. Looking forward to this. How’s the soundtrack? I remember being really impressed and into vol. 1’s soundtrack, so I’m hoping this one doesn’t disappoint.
Music never stands out to me in movies, so I really can’t say much about it…but it felt similar I guess….

Sadly, was disappointed with this installment. The character expansion is appreciated, but the plot itself felt pretty aimless for the 1st hour. Nice review man.
