When last year news broke that Carrie Fisher, who immortalized herself by her role as princess Leia, had died unexpectedly after a flight to London, many were shocked. People loved seeing her and she was someone who had also become successful as a script doctor. A day after her death her mother Debbie Reynolds passed away. She has had a very successful career as well. This documentary looks at both of them (they lived right next to each other) and had already been made before they passed away.
Bright Lights manages to paint a clear picture of both women and the bond they had. Fisher is a joy to watch as she is very funny. Reynolds struggles with the issues linked to her age, but can count on the support of her daughter. Besides showing them spending time together the film also delves into their past and shows which issues each of them struggled with on a more personal level. The end result is a beautiful documentary which shines a bright light on both of them and leaves you feel warm, fuzzy and of course a little bit sad as they are no longer with us.
