When I think of director Robert Rodriguez, I do not immediately feel that I should see every project he does. His first film El Mariachi was good, I have been able to enjoy the Spy Kids films for what they are and Sin City is perhaps his best, but the feeling of Grindhouse-like films that he has done a lot (eg. the Machete titles) prevails. I did not really have any expectations about Alita: Battle Angel, but the fact that this is a project that James Cameron wanted to make for nearly twenty years, besides Avatar, and he was also involved in developing this Rodriguez version, could result in something interesting. I decided to watch the film the best way possible, in a Dolby Cinema. Is Alita: Battle Angel worth it?
In a futuristic world, after a great war, there is little left of the world as it was. Of the “floating cities” there is still only one left and everyone seems to dream of going there (a concept that has similarities with Elysium. When cyborg doctor Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz) searches the waste of the floating city, he finds the head of a cyborg. He decides to take it home and connect it to a body. When this cyborg (Rosa Salazar) wakes up, she turns out to be very curious. Dyson gives her the name Alita and soon she wants to find an answer to the question who she really is.
Although the story may not be the most original and does not answer all questions it sets up, it is a great movie to watch. With many action scenes in which Alita shows what she is capable of, a simple love story and the growth of her character, she’s a character you care for. Rodriguez sets up a fascinating world you want to know more about. The ending leaves room for a sequel and I hope that this title is successful enough that that film can be made, because I enjoyed Alita: Battle Angel.

Nice score. I missed my chance to see this Thursday so I may try this weekend. The reactions have been pretty fascinating.
Yeah, which I can understand. Looking forward reading your thoughts on this one Keith 🙂
