The Thing From Another World (1951) – Review

Review The Thing From Another World
One of my favorite sci-fi/horror films is John Carpenter’s The Thing, in which the tension is high and you, like the characters, have no idea what is going on and who may not be the person you think they are. Yet The Thing was a remake and according to some, one of the best ever made. I had never seen the original version before, but I was curious about the similarities/differences.

Review The Thing From Another World
When a mysterious object is discovered under the ice in Antarctica and a mysterious creature is returned to a research station in a block of ice, the scientists and soldiers of this base eventually find out that they have to defend themselves against a dangerous alien.

“alles behalve overtuigend…”

This is clearly a movie made in a different time and clearly filmed on a set instead of on location. As a result, The Thing From Another World comes across as a play in which there is a total lack of tension. The mystery from the remake is missing and the special effects are anything but convincing. It made me appreciate the work of Carpenter even more. That is the one you must have seen, you can watch this one if your curious, but don’t have high expectations.
