Jake Gyllenhaal has been born on December 19, 1980 in Los Angeles. His father is a film director and his mother film producer and screenwriter. This meant when he was growing up he saw a lot of the movie industry and first appeared on screen in the movie City Slickers as the son of Billy Crystal’s character in 1991. He went to the Harvard-Westlake School and Columbia University where he studied Eastern religions and philosophy. He didn’t finish his studies though as he wanted to do more acting. The movie which really helped him was Donnie Darko, a movie which quickly became popular through word of mouth. He has since starred in movies like The Day After Tomorrow, Brokeback Mountain, Jarhead, Zodiac, Prince of Persiea: The Sands of Time, Source Code and End of Watch.
What’s your favorite Jake Gyllenhaal role?
For me, Gyllenhaal is very up and down in his choice of films, although as an actor I do really rate him. And for every average film (The Day After Tomorrow, Prince of Persia) there are several really good films, I particularly like Brokeback Mountain and Source Code and can’t wait to see End of Watch!
Will be reviewing End of Watch soon, but I can already tell you I thought it was an amazing movie, I really got caught up in it.
Gotta go with Donnie Darko or Zodiac as my favourite films of his but End Of Watch might be my favourite performance.
Both great movies and agree with you on End of Watch, it really felt like he was a copy in that.
You know what? I think I am a fan of Jake. Sure he’s had a strange pick of films at times, but he’s been good in even the most shaky of films. Favourites of his would probably be Donnie Darko and Source Code. Soft spot for him in Prince of Persia – he did well in that film!
Looking forward to seeing him in End of Watch.
Yeah, looking at his movie I think I am as well. Watched quite a lot of his movies.
I’ve got to say Brokeback Mountain. He was great in that.
I never saw it, but have heard it was an amazing performance.
I wouldn’t call myself a fan of his, but I was very impressed with his work in Brokeback Mountain and he seems like a very likable person.
He’s still got a long career ahead of him, so you might change your mind sati. π He does look like a cool dude.
I have to go with Broke back Mountain as well. He brought out the best in Heath Ledger and should have been nominated as well.
Interesting, the movie did receive a lot of awards, so I’m not surprised by the choice.
I really enjoyed him in Brothers. Underrated movie.
That was a very good movie, which I also was impressed with. Good choice!
Not a huge fan although I did appreciate his performance in Brokeback, but I wasn’t a fan of the movie. I saw Donnie Darko and am sure I will never quite get it even though it was fun. I did like Zodiac though.
That’s what I love about Donnie Dark, you can retch it several times and get something different out of it each time. I know Zodiac is widely lived but I wasn’t as crazy about it.
Favorite? Probably Donnie Darko.
Can’t wait to see End of Watch. Hearing nothing but good things about that one.
And rightly so, it is such a rollercoaster of a movie.
Jake is up and down for me. but I really bought into his performance in Love and Other Drugs.
Great choice for one of my fave segments here!
Although I have seen that movie I can’t remember much about it (except that Anne Hathaway was naked in it) π
My favorite films of his are Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain. I liked Source Code, also, but it’s been awhile since I’ve watched it and I don’t remember it very well.
Great choices. Still have not seen Brokeback Mountain, but liked the other two you mention. Donnie Darko is my favorite.
