Ewan McGregor was born on March 31st, 1971 in Perth, Scotland. Several family members were actors and actresses as well. He went to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied drama. Before he graduated he landed roles in the TV show Family Style and series Lipstick on Your Collar and he has been acting a lot since. His first performance that got him a lot of praise was his role in Danny Boyle’s Shallow Grave and worked with Boyle in other movies like Trainspotting and A Life Less Ordinary. He has starred in movies like Nightwatch, Star Wars, Moulin Rouge!, Black Hawk Down, Big Fish, I Love You Phillip Morris, The Men Who Stare at Goats, The Ghost Writer, Beginners, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and The Impossible.
What’s your favorite Ewan McGregor role?
Been a fan ever since the mid-90s when I first saw him in Shallow Grave. Nice write-up!
Just recently saw Shallow Grave for the first time, in which he was excellent indeed, but I think he always gives solid performances.
Such talented guy, he delivered the most well acted scene last year in The Impossible. My favorite work of his is Trainspotting, for me he will always be Renton.
The Impossible was amazing and he was great in it as well. He was great in it and very memorable because of the voiceover.
So many choices…I’d have to go with Trainspotting. It’s an epic performance really.
Can’t disagree with you on that one.
Nice pick, I have been a fan since I first saw him in Trainspotting.
Thanks a lot!
Nice to see one of my Scottish brethren get a mention here Nostra. I like McGregor a lot. I’d have to second Sati’s opinion on his roles. He’ll always be Renton for me also.
Eventually I will have to also do it for Sean Connery 🙂
I don’t have one role of his that I always associate him with, but can understand it’s Renton for some!
I love this man! It’s a shame he has no Oscar nominations. He was fantastic in The Impossible, even if he doesn’t make my personal lineup.
It is surprising, because he is a very good actor.
Got to be Trainspotting. Still Danny Boyle’s best film.
Many people agree with you on that one 🙂
Good one! For me, it has to be Trainspotting. Great film, unforgettable performance.
Seems to be everyone’s favorite 🙂
