Last month the 5 Obstructions blogathon started and I’m happy to see everyone participating, knowing it will run for a couple of months. You can find an overview of all current entries here. It is now the 1st of July, so time to reveal the Obstruction 2.
Interview
So this is what I’m expecting from you this month. Write a review of any movie you like, but you’ll have to do an interview about the movie. You can interview anyone you want (except yourself of course), so interviewing a fellow blogger is fine.
Golden checkmark
I’ve thought up a small incentive though to push you to work harder at it though. If you manage to interview someone who was involved with the movie you are reviewing (it doesn’t have to be a director or an actor, a special effects creator or sound technician is also fine) I will give you a golden checkmark instead of a green one in the overview. So do check out the credits of the movie and start googling to find out if you can arrange it. If you think getting such an interview is too hard, you might want to check out a documentary or a smaller movie as the people who are involved might be more open to answer your questions.
Just like with Obstruction 1, you will have a whole month to write your post for Obstruction 2. Good luck!
If you are interested to also earn a golden checkmark for the first obstruction let me know in the comments and I’ll let you know what you will have to do to earn that one.
Great! I’ll start working soon. 😀
Looking forward to seeing what you will do with it!
This is awesome! So what should I do to earn a golden checkmark for the first obstruction? Let me know! 🙂
You can earn one if you make the review you have done for The Intouchables even more extreme. Write it as if it is the worst movie ever made. You can go all out and make it as crazy/funny/negative as you’d like (even if that means it is not convincing at all). Does that sound possible?
Oh yeah. I will let you know when it’s done! 🙂
Interesting one with the interview involved, especially if you try and do an interview with someone involved in the production.
Yeah, it is tough. As you know I’m participating myself and I am hard at work trying to secure one 🙂
Wow, this is quite challenging. I hope I can do this good.
I know you will be able to pass this one Andina! Good luck.
Hey Nostra, here’s my entry : http://www.inspired-ground.com/obstruction-2-fiksi-2008-interview-with-doni-agustan/
I’ll try to put my post up soon.
Cool!
Ok. I’m going to have to check out the my rolodex. Interesting challenge.
Hoping for an amazing interview then 🙂
I’d love to participate since I missed the first Obstruction, but it’s gonna be tough to do the interview w/ people involved in the movie. I’ll see what I can do 😀
You can still do the first obstruction if you want Ruth, would hate to see a red cross in the overview for the first one!
Yeah, of course it is tough…you have to do some extra work for that golden checkmark 😉
My month is CRAZY BUSY, so I’m wimping out so-to-speak and simply interviewing a fellow blogger about a film he holds near and dear. I would have loved to interview someone who worked on a specific film, and while I know a few it would mean more time and work and I simply don’t have it right now (the wife is about to pop out a baby any day and that is going to cut my month in half).
Out of curiosity though, what would I need to do to make my first obstruction gold?
That is not a problem Andrew, looking forward to your entry. In order to make the first obstruction gold you could go all out and write the review like it is the best movie you’ve ever seen. It can be preposterous and unrealistic…just have fun with it.
omg what should i do to earn that golden checkmark for the first obstruction? i think i’d like to give it ago… and i hope i would be able to interview a film maker for the 2nd obstructions too! 😀
See my comment above, just rewrite the movie describing it like the best/worst movie ever. 🙂
I just posted the 2nd Obstruction, the link is below. It’s a review of “AMELIA”, and an interview with Firdosi Wharton-Ali, who I’ve done some coverage for in the past. She worked with Ron Bass, the film’s Writer-Producer, for 7 years, and worked on many of the scripts he wrote, and she told me not to watch “Amelia”, ’cause it wasn’t that good. So I thought she’d have some interesting things to say. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks David, great to see the first one. It’s clear people need some time to prepare for this one. Will update the overview post!
Your Welcome Nostra,
I know they take time to organize; but I thought there’d be one or two done before mine. Oh well.
It will mean you are at the top of the overview list 🙂
Hmm. Cool.
Here is the link to mine!

Thanks, have updated the overview!
Sure, I’d be curious to know what I would have to do for a golden checkmark on the first obstruction. I also have a couple questions on this obstruction: Does it count if I use a short film instead of a feature length film? If not, does a podcast interview count?
If you want to get a golden checkmark for the first you basically have to post the review as it is the worst/best movie ever made. It can be as crazy as you want 🙂
As for your second question, not a problem if it is a short film and as long as you link to the interview from your review it’s fine with me!
So I’m really late again this month, and I’ll probably not manage to put a post up before next week. If that’s not ok I’ll have to step out of the game 🙁
No problem Metre, the summer time can be very busy so I understand.
Thank you so much for your patience! I did make it though so here’s my link: http://limereviews.blogspot.com/2013/07/hanna.html
Here’s the link to my summary post about the review and interview! Both were a great time.

Thanks Dan, have added it to the overview post!
Here’s the link to my post! http://thesouloftheplot.wordpress.com/2013/07/28/singin-in-the-rain-the-second-obstruction/
Thanks Hunter for this one, have added it to the overview.
This is a late question, but does it have to be a theatrically-released film (whether big or small), or can it be like a thesis film or something?
It can be anything you want, do want it to be possible for everyone 🙂
hi nostra!
i finally got the interview done! i send the link to the interview because the one i interviewed is a director of short films. So i put the link to my reviews of his shorts in the interview instead (i hope i dont confuse you!)
anyway, here’s the link to my entry to the 2nd blogathon:

Great to see! You have earned your gold checkmark!
Here is the link to mine. I found this one really difficult since I have never really interviewed anyone before, so I took the easy way and interviewed my mom. But I tried to make it more difficult by doing a review of Only God Forgives.

Well, the obstructions are supposed to be challenging, so good to hear it was a bit difficult 🙂 Have added your entry!
Thanks. I know they are supposed to be hard it has me excited and anxious about Obstruction 3.
I can already tell you that it is one with will take some time!
I made it under the wire. Here is my entry for July.

Thanks, very interesting piece to read!
Here’s my entry, about American Psycho:

To interview someone was a great experience, by the way!
Thanks Sofia, it has been added to the overview. Great to hear you enjoyed it and hope it’ll inspire you to do more of them in the future!
Nostra, I know this is last minute, but here is my entry: http://victorsmoviereviews.com/2013/07/31/stardust-2007/
It goes live in 12 minutes, 7:30 EST or 19:30 as they say on the Continent.
Yeah, really came down to the wire, but you have passed. Added it to the overview post.
Here you go, never realized you weren’t in the US until I saw the 3rd obstruction up and the August 1st date. At least it’s still July where I am so it’s not technically late. Right?
http://flightstightsandmovienights.com/2013/07/31/superhero-shorts-wolverine-the-musical/
Yeah, I’m based in the Netherlands. Nope you are not late and have earned that golden checkmark!
Pardon the late post Nostra, but here it is: http://flixchatter.net/2013/08/07/the-act-of-killing-review-and-interview-with-director-joshua-oppenheimer/
I know you like documentaries so I hope you’ll check out The Act of Killing.
Awesome Ruth, really like that you managed to do this. Have heard a lot of great things about this documentary and it is high on my to watch list. Will be checking it out soon and the interview as well!
