Paul Bettany was born on 27th of May 1971 in London. After he started living on his own he made money playing guitar on the streets. He studied at the Drama Centre London and appeared on stage in a production of An Inspector Calls. He appeared in several Shakespeare plays with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He made the move to TV and appeared in various TV series. His first leading role was in the movie Gangster No.1, which made people take notice. His first big Hollywood production was A Knight’s Tale. He has since appeared in various big productions like A Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander and The Da Vinci Code and as the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. in the Iron Man movies.
From left to right: Sharpe’s Waterloo, Coming Home, Killer Net, Every Woman Knows a Secret, After the Rain, The Suicide Club, Gangster No.1, Dead Babies, David Copperfield, A Knight’s Tale, Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang), A Beautiful Mind, The Heart of Me, The Reckoning, Dogville, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Euston Road, Wimbledon, Firewall, The Da Vinci Code, Iron Man (Iron Man 2 and The Avengers), Broken Lines, The Secret Life of Bees, Inkheart, Legion, The Young Victoria, Creation, The Tourist, Margin Call, Priest, Blood
Although he has had many great roles my favorite has to be the one where I first noticed him, which was in A Knight’s Tale.
What’s your favorite Paul Bettany role?
Fave roles for Bettany would be – Wimbledon and A Knights Tale….
Have not seen Wimbledon, is it worth seeing?
I’ve never been an avid fan of Bettany but I’d have to say Master and Commander.
I personally didn’t like Master and Commander much, so can’t remember anything about it.
One of our best.
In my opinion he is a great actor.
I haven’t seen A Knight’s Tale yet. But I have enjoyed Bettany in Legion and Wimbledon. I’m not a huge fan of those movies but I enjoyed his role.
A Knight’s Tale is a nice middle ages story with some modern twists (like “We will rock you”)
Hi, all:
Paul Bettany caught my attention opposite Sean Bean’s Sharpe. Thought he was fantastic as ‘Gangster #1″. Though his best and most subtle role was in ‘Master and Commander’.
He reminds a lot of Laurence Fox’s DS James Hathaway in the ‘Inspector Lewis’ stories. Though Bettany has the opportunities to utilize far more edge. Once he found his niche, he’ll be formidable!
Have not seen all of his movies, but I always enjoy his performances. Don’t know the Inspector Lewis stories…
Ahh, Paul Bettany was great in A Knight’s Tale! I don’t know what the hell has happened to him since. Sure he’s JARVIS, but the last films I saw him in properly were Priest and Legion. What was he doing?!
I think I’ve seen Legion (which wasn’t a good movie and I don’t remember much about it) and skipped Priest…so can’t really answer your question 🙂
Paul Bettany rules! He’s always great but I kinda love his role in The Da Vinci Code.
Yeah, he stands out in that role..very creepy 🙂
Him as Silas in Davinci code is the character that makes me a fan
I looooove Paul Bettany!!
He has good acting ability but he needs more challenging roles
Thanks for your ethusiastic comment Novroz. What kind of role would you like to see him in?
I hope he stops playing in movies like Legion and Priest. He was great in Margin Call…I want him in that serious role again…or funny like in a Knight’s tale.
I see, well let’s wait and see what the future will bring 🙂
