Gerard Butler was born on November 13, 1969 in Paisley, Scotland. He also went to high school there and eventually went to Glasgow University to study law. In his teens he also went to the Scottisch Youth Theatre. He finished his law study and became a trainee at a law firm in Edinburgh. Unfortunately his partying lifestyle caused him to miss work and ultimately got him fired when he was 25.
His new goal was to become famous and he headed to London to realise his dream. He did several jobs to pay his bills and met up with someone he knew from the Scottish Youth Theate. He was selected for a role in the play of Coriolanus. His next role would be in a theater version of Trainspotting. He moved to Los Angeles at age 30 and started getting cast in bigger movies, mostly in small roles. The role which put him in the spotlight was that of King Leonidas in the movie 300. He since appeared in both action movies like Gamer and Law Abiding Citizen and romantic comedies like P.S. I Love you and The Ugly Truth.
What’s your favorite Gerard Butler role?
Machine Gun Preacher Chasing Mavericks
Haven’t seen either of those movies. My personal favorite is 300.
You will make my old mate very happy…. Where is Ruth???
I know, I already informed her about it earlier this week, guess she has a new desktop image to use now π
Ruth will be pleased π Nice one Nostra. I didn’t know Butler attended the Scottish Youth Theatre, my daughter has done some classes there.
Favourite role? That would have to be ‘The Stranger’ in Dear Frankie.
Yeah, I assume she will be happy with it! So in a couple of years time your daughter might be famous then π
You never know man. I hope so π
Time will tell!
300 was my fav!
It also was for me, such an iconic role.
It was…too bad a sequel is out of the question.
Maybe a prequel?
They already filmed the prequel “300: Rise of an Empire” in Bulgaria π It will be released in 2013.
Didn’t know about that, thanks! Hope it will be as good.
Wahoo! Thanks Nostra for featuring GB… finally! π He’s such a versatile actor, I love how he always try something new. Yes some of them turn out to be crap but I still give him props for switching things up and not afraid to suffer for his art. I have too many favorite roles as you’ve probably read on my blog, but my top 5 would be Phantom, Dear Frankie, Machine Gun Preacher, P.S. I Love You and Rocknrolla. I think being fired just a week shy of qualifying as a lawyer is the best thing that could’ve happened to him!
@Mark β Yes he attended Scottish Youth Theatre which probably when he got the first acting bug π
Yeah, it took a while, but knew it would make you happy Ruth π
Phantom of the Opera
From what I’ve heard it is a good choice
Reblogged this on shadesofgay.
Nice post. Favorite role of his: Shattered (Butterfly on a Wheel).
Haven’t seen that movie.
You forgot to mention how is career has nose-dived into unwatchable territory. Even if he looks different in them, it’s still the same ridiculous rom-com with a piss-poor American accent.
That is all.
Well, I’m not agreeing with you on that as I have seen way too litle of his work to judge on that.
