Save the Green Planet (2003)

Being in the right mood is very important when watching a specific type of movie. Get it wrong and you can sometimes don’t like movies which you would love. After watching Save the Green Planet I wondered if it was one of those cases where it was something I should have watched with a different mindset. Continue reading

Bernie (2011)

I originally wasn’t planning to watch Bernie. Not because I don’t like Jack Black as I think he’s usually pretty entertaining, but the movie just didn’t seem that appealing. I normally don’t watch trailers, but watching part of one made me decide I’d skip this one. That’s until I saw a lot of positive reviews coming into my mailbox. It seemed I had dismissed a movie I shouldn’t have, so I was set on “righting” that wrong and decided to check it out. Continue reading

The Five Year Engagement (2012)

Jason Segel is one of those actors that can really do no wrong in my book and I’ve enjoyed his presence in each movie I’ve seen him in. Ignoring the marketing (it’s usually a bad sign if a movie poster states “From the producer of…” as that says nothing about the quality of this movie) I was looking forward to seeing this movie. Continue reading

2 Days in New York (2012)

There are various actors who make the step to directing. Ben Affleck and Clint Eastwood are good examples of it. Julie Delpy is an actress who also has appeared both in front of and behind the camera, with 9 directorial movies to her name. 2 Days in New York is a sequel to 2 Days in Paris. I hadn’t seen that one before I saw this, so I didn’t have any expectations or attachment yet to the characters. Starring Chris Rock and Julie Delpy, is this comedy worth checking out? Continue reading

The Dictator (2012)

When it comes to comedy it seems that there is no subject you can’t make jokes about and Sacha Baron Cohen has shown with his various movies that he is excellent at shocking audiences (and making them laugh in the process). Ali G, Borat and BrĂ¼no were all characters that played with stereotypes while commenting on specific things and showing people’s reactions to them. In The Dictator Cohen slips into the role of dictator Aladeen and with this movie he immediately sets the tone by starting it with a dedication to (in loving memory of) Kim Jong Il. Continue reading

Plan C. (2012)

Being Dutch you might expect that I must watch quite a lot Dutch movies, but that’s really not the case. It’s difficult to explain why I don’t, but somehow I don’t feel compelled to check most of them out. Lately though there seemed to be a couple of crime related movies which I did find interesting to check out. Black Out was one of them and the mob series Penoza was another one. When I saw this movie, dealing with a corrupt cop I decided to give it a chance and find out if this would be any good. Continue reading

Sound of Noise (2010)

review

Music is a big part of movies and is used to enhance the feelings you have about something that’s happening. When it’s done well you might not even notice it is there. It’s something that happens a lot to me and when I read other reviews commenting how great the music was I often don’t remember any. Sound of Noise is a Swedish movie where you will not forget it easily as music is what this movie is about. To be more specific, it’s about terrorist musicians (and is not what you might think it is reading that). Continue reading
