Hot Tub Time Machine is, like you’ll probably guess reading the title, not a very serious movie about time travel. It’s a comedy in which a couple of friends, who really haven’t been that close for a while, decide to back to the place they used to go to during the holidays when they were young. They hope to revive the good old times. Unfortunately the little village has lost its former glory and they decide to enjoy their time there, despite the initial disappointment. They all jump into the hot tub and enjoy the alcohol. When they wake up the next day, the village has transformed. Continue reading

The Dirty Dozen (1967)
Like the world championship football has shown, it’s very important that there is one team who all have the same goal (no pun intended). It takes time before each team member knows what he can expect of the rest and even longer before they work together as a team. If there is any friction in the team during the matches, chances to win are a lot smaller, as France has shown.
When the American army has to do a very difficult mission against the Germans in the second World War they ask Major Reisman to lead a team into this mission. When he hears that this team consists of soldiers that are on death row he’s not too thrilled to do it. Because of previous behaviour he has no choice, has to accept and will have to work with these 12 convicts. Continue reading
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys are back for the final part of the Toy Story trilogy. The toys already have been through a lot in the first two movies. In the first one we saw the start of the friendship between Buzz en Woody, which they almost lost during the second movie because Woody was taken away by a collector. Because of their adventures the toys are a tight-knit group, who know that they can depend on each other.
Their owner Andy is getting older and is about to leave the house to go to college. He has lost interest in his toys and they are tucked away in a chest. Of course the toys are not happy, but it’s something they knew would come one day. Like in every relationship, they too enjoy the attention and affection they get, but those times seem to be a thing of the past. Continue reading
Youth in Revolt (2009)
As is probably already clear when reading the name of the movie, the subject it deals with is growing up and standing up against something, like your parents. Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) is a teenager who, when some things happen at home, has to spend a weekend away from it together with his mother and stepfather. Here he meets Sheeni (Portia Doubleday), the girl of his dreams. When the weekend ends he vows he’ll manage to get back to her by any means necessary. Continue reading
Hot Rod (2007)
The Lonely Island have made their name with performances in Saturday Night Live and their music. Examples are Jizz in my pants, Like a Boss, Dick in a Box and the Grammy nominated I’m on a boat (the video is just comedy gold). The titles of these number probably say a lot about the expectations you will have about third first movie, Hot Rod. Continue reading
Superbad (2007)
In the last couple of years Judd Apaptow managed to change the face of the comedy genre.
With the humor in movies like 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked up and Forgetting Sarah Marshall he has shown that that kind of humor, which is more oriented to older watcher is a very succesful formula. There have been a lot of movies that tried to copy it, but not all have managed to follow the success. Apatow was also involved with Superbad and you can clearly see. The movie shows a couple of teenagers who promise their fellow students they will buy booze for a party. It’s a big chance for them to be very popular at school. There is only one slight problem and it’s that they don’t have the legal age to buy alcohol yet. Continue reading
Mystery team (2009)
The Mystery Team has been solving mysteries around their neighborhood ever since they were little. They are only small mysteries, like who drove over a frog and things like that. The team consists of Jason (expert in disguises), Duncan (the boy genius) and Charlie (supposedly the strong one). The boys grow up but still take on new cases. When a little girl ask them to solve a big crime they can not turn her down. Continue reading
Haeundae (2009)
No, the picture above is not from the Day after Tomorrow movie, but from Haeundae, which is a South-Korean disastermovie about a Tidal wave. The Day after Tomorrow had a budget of 125 million. Haeudae didn’t have that much money available, only 11 million dollar (the most expensive South-Korean movie ever made). Does the movie succeed to be convincing despite the relative small budget? Continue reading
Burn after reading (2008)
Burn after reading was on TV the other day and as it’s a movie i quite enjoy i decided to watch it again. This comedy by the brothers Coen, which stars a whole lot of well-known actors (George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand en J.K.Simmons) is a nice movie to see. Continue reading
The Breakfast Club (1985)
During the eighties there were a couple of movies that really managed to connect with the youth. Movies like Weird Science, Ferris Bueller’s day off and the Breakfast Club manage to give, beside a view into the thoughts of teenagers, a good image of the time period. All these movies were made by John Hughes, who passed away last year. For this movie he wrote the screenplay in 2 days.
The movie shows five teenagers who all have been “sentenced” to detention. They have to spend their whole saturday at school. Continue reading
