Review Before I Fall

Even though I watch a whole lot of movies each week (and read quite a few reviews), it’s simply impossible to keep up with every title that’s being released each week. It means you sometimes miss out on titles which could be interesting. That was also the case with this film. My eldest daughter really wanted to see it and as I know what her taste in movies is (which is slightly different from mine) I decided to just give it a chance. The creativity of the human mind know no limits and it’s always fascinating to see what is being invented, but also which theories we think of about things we can’t even see. It appeals to the imagination and the best movies normally also manage to do that. Whether it was the first Matrix movie which did that on a technical level or Black Swan which did that emotionally. A favorite subject of mine has always been time travel as it enables you to dream about both the future and the past, so it’s no surprise I keep searching for new movies I have not seen. Fantastic Four (2015)

In recent years Marvel has built a reputation when it comes to superhero movies. Not only are they financially very successful, the average quality also is very high. The audience is looking forward to new superhero movies in the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” and although the Marvel logo is the thing that appears on screen this is not a film that was made by Marvel Studios. The rights to the Fantastic Four are in fact owned by 20th Century Fox (like Sony owns the rights to Spiderman) and to ensure that they would not fall back to Marvel made a new film. Not a third part to the amusing (though not exceptional) first two films, but a reboot. Continue reading →

Black Mirror: White Christmas

Black Mirror White Christmas review

With the series Black Mirror, writer/comedian Charlie Brooker has managed to deliver two seasons of an extremely smart TV-show in which he explores the dangers of the quick development in the world of technology. By taking well-known present day concepts and showing what these could lead to in the future he has managed to let its audience think about what could happen: What are the consequences on technological improvements to our body? What is the power of social networks? Or how far are we willing to go when it comes to giving away our privary? It is the reason it is one of my favorite shows and I couldn’t wait to see the Christmas special. The promo shots, which show John Hamm seemingly talking to an egg, made me curious and the question is whether White Christmas has managed to meet my (extremely high) expectations. Life in a Day (2011)

Just imagine that you would be able to experience everything which happens to people all around the world in a single day, what would be the impression you would get? Youtube answers this question together with Ridley Scott, Kevin MacDonald and Joe Walker. Last year they asked Youtube users to send in any video which was made on the 24th of July 2010. They received an overwhelming 4500 hours of footage and managed to cut this down to a one and a half hour film. Does Life in a Day manage to paint a stunning picture of humankind or is this movie comparable to Mr.Brainwash’s Life Remote Control in Exit Through the Gift Shop? Continue reading →
